PSU opera workshop
An opera workshop that began
winter term under the direction
of Edward Schick, form er d ire ct
or of the Pacific Opera Theater
in Long Beach, C alifornia, w ill
be offered Monday and Tuesday
evenings beginning March 29, at
Portland State U niversity through
the Division of Continuing Educa
tion.
Registration for the two-credit
workshop opens March 15 in the
lobby of South Park Hall a t the
R egistrar's Office.
A nyone
with a v o i c e of
potential operatic range and -
pianists who are interested in
working with the comprehensive
range of musical styles offered
by opera are eligible fo r the
course, according to D i r e c to r
Shhick.
The fir s t m ajor project of
the course w ill beM ozart’ s"C osi
fan tutte” to be presented May
19-22, through the cooperation
of the PSU music and theater
a rts departments.
Other work projects w ill in
clude M ozart’ s ’ ’ NozzedlFlga
donizetti’ s " E l ix i r of Love,’’
Bizet’ s "C a rm en,” V e rdi’ s " L a
T raviata,” and " I l Trovatore”
as well as contemporary works.
From the workshop in about
a year, Schick hopes to evolve a
producing opera theater fo r low-
budget operations.

munity College is offering a new
course called "A n Appreciation
of Mathematics fo r the Interest
ed Non-Mathematician” in Spring
term .
Meeting once a week from 6
t i l 8 p jn . on Thursday even
in g s , beginning A p r i l 1, the
course w ill be designed for per
sons with an inquiring mind who
may not have been exposed to
much mathematics. Participants
w ill be encouraged and aided to
delve into areas of mathematics
about which they may have heard
but in which they have no exper
ience, such as logic, topology,- -
and statistics.
The teaching methods w ill
promote and support individual
study, exploration and inquiry .

The teachers and social work aide
have been delivering dental foim s
to the parents of those youngsters
eligible fo r free dental care. I f
you s till have questions about how
to use the dental form , you may
call M is . Brown, Social W orker,

The Social Work Aides are tak
ing youngsters to th e ir dentists
when parents request help with
transportation. Transportation
was provided fo r one week fo r a
youngster who mother was unable
to do so. We a ie able to help
with transportation on a tempo
rary, basis where needed.
M rs . Edwards, Social Work Aide
and Parent Coordinator,has work
ed very diligently coordinating
the transportation of parents to
classes in physical fitness, 3wim
ming, F irs t A id, and knitting. M rs
Thomas, another Social Work
Aide, was able to get mother
helpers at the clinics fo r physical
examinations and immunizations.
M rs . Thomas had a serious fall
while on the job and is recuperat
ing slowly at home.
