Property Outside of School Dis trict No. 1 Will Pay No More Than Last Tear. As forecast a week ago, Portland taxpayers next year will pay the htehest tax they have ever been assessed, according to calculations based upon figures just given out by the state tax commission. As accurately as Assessor Welch could determine the total levy for all property embraced in school district No. 1 yesterday, it will be 45.2 mills. The previous high record was 44.8 mills, assessed in 1920. Assessor Welch did not receive official notification from Salem yesterday as to the amount of money for state purposes Mult nbmah county will be required to raise in 1923. He based his calcu lations on figures unofficially re ceived here. The state officials were reported to have fixed Multnomah county's share of the total funds to be raised by taxation at 33.9628 per cent. This was calculated by the assessor to amount to $3, 000,713.71. To raise - this amount a levy of 9.4 mills is needed. The levy for state purposes last year was 9.86 mills in Mult nomah county. Property outside school district No. 1 in Multnomah county may-not pay a higher tax this year than heretofore. The increase within the . district is due quite largely to a lift of 3.9 mills in the levy for school purposes. The levy for county pur poses, just as in the case of the state levy, was reduced under that of 1922. rhooe your want ads to The Oro gonian. All its readers are inter ested in the classified columns.
