noon. Pacific time, Wednesday, Jan
uary 17. 1023, for the purchase of
merchantable timber on a tract within
the Warm Springs Indian reservation,
Oregon, described as follows: Begin
ning at the intersection of the south
rim of Shitike canyon with the range
line between ranges 11 and 12 east,
Willamette meridian, and running
south on said range line to the north
bank of tho Metoiius river, thence
following up the north bank of the
Metoiius river and Jefferson creek to
its intersection with the line between
ranges S and 0 east, thence tp the
northwest corner of township II. south,
range 0 east, thence east to th,e cor-
ner between sections 31 and 32, town
ship 10 south, range 0 east, thenco
north on cast line of the west tier of
sections through townships and 10
south, range it east, to the south rim
of Shitike canyon, thence following
the said rim eastward to the place of
beginning. The unit includes approxi
mately hi. 000 acres of timber land witn
a total stand of approximately 4S2.000.

acres of this area, with a stand f
approximately 43,000,000 feet of yellow
and susar pine and 540,000 feet of
other species is allotted land, for which
separate approved contracts must be
made with allottees; within the area
there are 477 acres of fee-patented
land with an estimated stand of 5,000,
000 feet, which can probably be pur
chased from the owners. Each bid
must state the price per thousand feet,
Scribner decimal C log scale, that will
be paid for timber cut and scaled prior
to April 1, 1028. On April 7, 102S, the
stumpage price will increase lo per
cent (15) over the price bid for the
first period and at the close of each
three vears thereafter the price will
advance 10 per cent (lWc) over the
price paid during the preceding three
year period. No bid for the iirst
period will be considered for less than
$2.75 per thousand feet, B. M.. for
yellow and sugar pine, 50c for white fir
and $1.30 for Douglas fir, incense cedar
and other species. The cutting of white
fir shall be optional with the purchaser.
Each bid must be accompanied by a
certified check on a solvent national
bank, payable to the Superintendent,
Warm Springs Indian Agency, in the
amount of $25,000. The deposit will
be returned to unsuccessful bidders,
applied as part of the purchase price
of successful bidder, or retained aa
liquidated damages if. the bidder shall
not execute contract and furnieh sat
isfactory bond for $40,000 within 60
days of the acceptance of his bid. The
right to waive technical defects and
to reject any and all bids is reserved.
