THE MOKXIXG OREGOXIAN, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1922 RESIDENCE B Burglars Apparently Famil iar With Cobbs! House. FURS AND SILVER TAKEN Sedan requisitioned for Carrying Away Goods Said to Be Valued at $3000. Burglars seemingly familiar with the floor plan and sleeping arrange ment in the home of J. F. Cobbs, 588 Jlonteomery drive, crept about it some time early yesterday morning and removed furs and silverware valued at about J3000 and then, after partaking In convivial fashion of their unwitting host's cigars, drove off in the $8000 Cobbs sedan with I the loot neatly stowed away in two suitcases, also stolen from the ' household. The loss was discovered by Mrs. Cobbs on arising yesterday morning, and Inspectors Persinger and Morak were called. A sealskin coat valued j at several thousand dollars, a fur- trimmed cape valued at $500, and silver worth about $1000 were gone. but jewelry and other articles of I worth, including silver picture frames, were not removed. Entry into the house was gained through a basement window. The entire establishment, with the ex ception of the seven occupied rooms. was then gone through In expert fashion. Even closets were entered, but, according to Mrs. Cobbs, noth ing was disturbed with the excep tion of the stolen articles. The sedan had been left outside the ga rage, which was newly painted. Cobbs Home- Secluded. The Cobbs home, which is elabo rate, is secluded by virtue of its location and the planting of the grounds. Operations inside th house probably took an hour at the least, police believe. A night watchman and certain burglar apparatus for the protec tion of the house and the four acres of grounds on Portland Heights I were relied upon. Mr. Cobba ex pressed considerable surprise over the publication of an account of other elaborate devices and death I traps for warding off intruders. "So- I ciable crowd," was his comment on the loss of his cigars. I l.fllMI JIliA I h (Jill IS Kfll.h L. Ii. Ray of liane County Refuses to Make Religion an Issue. EUGENE, Or.. Sept. 11. (Special.) L.
