THE MORNING OEEGOXIAN. SATUEDAY. JUNE 3, 1923 13 ONE BALLOGN IS MISSING AJJj OTHERS IX NATIONAL RACE ACCOUNTED FOR. Indications Are That Army, Navy and Independents Each Will Have Switzerland Entry. . CHICAGO, June 2. (By the Asso ciated Press.) Indications tonight were that an army, navy and inde pendent balloon will represent the United States in the international bal loon races to be held in Switzerland. The navy balloon .piloted by Lieu tenant W. F. Reed was the- only one of 13 contestants that started in the national race from Milwaukee on Wednesday still unaccounted for to night, and was believed to be aloft somewhere over the Great Lakes re gion. Of the 13 balloons, 12 were competing: for the right to be placed among the three to represent the United States in the international races and two of the . winners are thought to have landed today. H. B. Honeywell of St. Louis, an Independent pilot, reported that he had landed about 20 miles south of Joplin, Mo., today after covering about 650 miles, while Major Oscar Westover ot Washington, piloting an ermy balloon, came down near Lake St. John, province of Quebec, Canada. Nothing has been heard of the bal loon piloted by Lieutenant Reed since last night. If he makes a successful landing it is thought that his balloon will be one of the winners unless it runs into winds that force it back m Its course. Six of the original IS starters were unaccounted for early today, but it was learned that Lieutenant-Commander J. P. Norfleet, piloting a helium-filled navy balloon, had land ed at Hancock, Mo., yesterday, while Captain Harold E. Weeks of the army came down near Witt 111., and Ward T.
