Activities in Oregon, Washington
and Alaska to Bo Co-ordinated
Along With Churches.
A committee has teen appointed to
work out plans to correlate all Meth
odist Institutions in the Portland area,
- comprising Oregon, Washington and
Alaska, and to see that all activities
of Methodist churches In the area are
promoted along the same lines. The
committee consists of L)r. W. O. Shep
ard. bishop of the Oregon conference;
Dr. W. W. Toungson, superintendent
of the Tortland district, and Dr. A. L.
Howard.
The action was taken at the two
day conference held in Spokane for
all district superintendents, from
which Kishop Shepard and Pr. Toung
son returned yesterday. The work of
' the committee will begin Immediately
and will Include a complete survey of
all districts in the area.
It is expected that a council will be

perinlendents and one pastor and one
lay delegate from each conference,
and will meet semi-annually.
At the Spokane session plans also
were broached for a new Jlethodlm
school of religious education to sup
plant the Kimball School of Theology
at Salem. Or., and to be located in
Tortland, Tacoma or Seattle. The
plans were presented by Dr. E. - C.
Hickman, president of the Kimball
school. Questions concerning financing-
and definite location of the new
school will be discussed at a meeting
of church officials in Spokane next
March, and each conference will ap
. point a commissioner to survey the
whole problem of providing facilities
and equipment for religious education
and ministerial training. Dr. Hickman
'said the denomination would need 462
preachers and special workers in the
next five years. I
