APPIE - SHII'.MKNTS ARE DOUBLE
Oregon Movement for Season to December
10, 4S48 Carloads.
Oregon apple shipments from the begin
ning of the season to December 10 were
double those of the same period last year.
About the same proportion prevailed In
other boxed apple states.
Carlot shipments of boxed apples are
reported
follows:
by the bureau of markets as
Market Quiet With Very Little Sell
ing by Farmers India May
I'rohibit Shipments.
The wheat market had a weaker ten
dency yesterday. Soft white bids at the
Merchants' Exchange were the same as
Wednesday, but all other bids were 1
cent lower. The market was quiet. Not
much wheat was offered here and In the
country selling by farmers was very light.
The export demand for Pacific coast
heat continues as unsatisfactory as for
everal weeks past. The day's cables
ahowed that prices available in Europe
were several cents Delow a parity with
the values ruling here. There was aata
Jnf in the character o the day's news
from abroad to indicate an early resump
tion of business at this end.
Eastern weather reports pointed to rain
or snow soon In districts where moisture
Ss needed by the fall crop,
Lake navigation Is still open, as shown
ty the clearance of a wheat cargo from
I'ort Arthur. This Is the latest date that
any boat has left that port in 40 years.
In 3881 gruin cleared as late as Decem
ber 27.
The Liverpool wheat market closed fVid
tllghef.
Harvesting of wheat in Argentina la
being delayed by rain.
An unofficial report from India says
that In all probability wheat exports will
be prohibited next season. Indian crop
prospects are favorable and the wheat
yield will no doubt allow of a certain
surplus for export, but this will now go
to replenish depleted stocks.
The Danublan market, according to
Cables, was very quiet. The weather Is
cold w-lth snow storms delaying shipping
to be caught In the ice.

CANADA CLEANS CP STORAGE EGGS
Orders on Market for Five More Cars
Which Cannot Be Filled.
With fret-h eggs holding at a high level
anil likely to continue so until after
Christmas, the demand for storage eggs,
because of the great difference In price,
lias become stronger. There were orders
0:1 the market yesterday for five cars of
storage eggs for Immediate shipment to
Canada but there are not that many left
In the local coolers. Less than 20II0 cases
remain in storage here at the present
time.
But for the Canadian business, storage
eculators would probably be facing a
loss. Ten or 12 cars were shipped across
tli.j line, most of them to Alberta districts,
and these: orders have practically brought
to a close the storage season here. A good
grade of storage eggs was quoted yester
day at 40 cents, which is more than they
were worth any time earlier In the sea
son. Ranch egg receipts are still held back
by weather conditions, but tt Is believed
supplies In the country are accumulating,
w hlch may lower the market next week.
The demund yesterday was brisk. Bids
made to country shippers ranged from 44
to 40 cents.
The bulter market was firm and un
changed at 42 cents for cube extras. New
Zealand butter is being offered to the
trade at 36 Cents Vancouver, duty paid.

Dressed Geese Hell Well.
The dressed turkey market was strong
and active yesterday. Receipts were large
and cleaned up well at 4748 cents. Some
retailers held back, expecting a break to
day, but others bought freely. A number
of shipping orders were also filled.

Coffee Futures Irregular.
NEW YORK. Dec. 22. The market for
coff e futures was Irregular. December be
ing sustained by a moderate demand from
the rencentrated long Interest while late
mooths showed a tendency to ease off
under further scattered realizing or liqui
dation. The opening was 3 points higher
to 8 points lower. After selling at 8.71
December advanced to 8.90c. but did not
fully hold the gain, while March eased off
from 8 83c to 8.73c. The general list closed
at a net advance of 6 points on December;
but generally 5 to 1 1 points lower. Sales
were estimated at about 31,000 bags. De

Early Market Favorably Influenced
by European Demand for Man
itoba Qrain, Relief Measures.
CHICAGO, Dec. 22. Heavy profit-taking
sales on the part of recent buyers did
a good deal toward bringing about ia
setback in wheat prices today, notwith
standing some display of strength in the
market during the first half of the ses
sion. Quotations closed weak, c to lc
net lower, with May 91.13 to 9115 and
July 91.04 to 9104. Corn finished un-
changed to -c higher; oats off c to
c. and provisions unchanged to 2()c up.
Before profit-taking sales acquired mo
mentum, the wheat market was influ
enced by reports of European demand for
future deliveries at Winnipeg and by talk
of harvest delays In Argentina. Word was
at hand, too, that the Australian export
able surplus would show a material re
duction from estimates which have been
current of late. Bulls put stress also on
what they described as the precarious out
look for the domestic wlnter crop and on
hoped for stimulating effect of prospective
Russian relief demand for corn. Highest
prices of the day were reached aUer an
nouncement that the relief bill had been
put up to President Harding. Then prolit
taking broadened out. however, and the
market rapidly declined.
Corn and oats advanced as a result of
Russian relief plans, but like wlitat re
acted under pressure of sales to realize
profits.
Provisions averaged higher with hogs.
The Chicago grain letter received yester
day by the Overbeck A Cooke company of
Portland follows:
"Wheat The trade today was of a pre
holiday character and considering the vol
ume of liquidation that made Its appear
ance, the market gave an excellent account
of Itself. Outside markets were without
feature, following the grneral trend of
our fluctuations. The seaboard failed to
report any export business in wheat, al
though they did say that there was an
improved demund for flour. The most po
tent factor at the moment Is the evidence
that good milling wheat is already becom
ing scarce in many sections of the country.
If wheat is hard to buy now. with the
crop year only half over, it Is not hard to

LAMBS DECLINE AGAIN
ANOTHER QUARTER. REDCC
TIOX IV LOCAL TRICES.
Hogs Twenty-Five Cents Hislicr
With Small Supply Available.
Cattle Are Unchanged.
Eight loads of stock reached the local
yards yoaterday, of which one load of
cattle and two loads of sheep went
through.
Another decline of a quarter was noted
10 all grades of Iambs, except east of the
mountains stock, none of which is now
on hand.
The hog market continued its recent
firmness and prices were advanced a
quarter to D as the regular top.
Ail gradia of cattle were steady and
unchanged.
The yards will not be open for business
Monday, but all stock received will be fed
and watered as usual.
Receipts yesterday were 57 cattle, two
see what the situation will be later In the c"i,v""' . hl"!' "nd BM) "TT,
season. Furthermore, we have not as yet
enjoyed so much as a normal flour demand
and It Is within reason to expect that be
fore many months there will be quite a
scramble for flour from all sections. It is
the consensus of opinion among milling
Interests that this demand will got under
way Immediately after the first of the
year. We believe higher prices will be re
corded based on domestic conditions alone.
"Corn The market was active and ad
vanced to a new high level on the present
movement early in the day, but sold off
later on reports of Increased country of
ferings. A canvass of receivers, however,
disclosed the fact that there was only a
moderate increase and that the average
country holders are not yet disposed to sell
freely. The shipping demand was excep
tionally good with sales of 040,000 bushels
reported, most of which was for exporters.
Our prediction that there would be a good
demand for the increased movement is
being fully realized and we continue to
have confidence in higher prices.
"Oats Again showed strength, but held
within a comparatively narrow range due
to the persistent selling on the bulges by
longs. The cash demand was more active
than It has been recently and spot pre
miums were slightly htKher.
Kye Buying of futures, credited to ex
port interests, gave this morket a strong
appearance Cash rye was nominally steady
at 3 cents over December bid No. 2 on
