of purchases, for the rejection of the
bids had been read.
The controversy over the bids be
gan last week, when City Commis
sioner Barbur, in charge of the paving
plant, told the council that he did
not favor awarding the contract to
the City Motor Trucking company,
the lowest bidder, because, he was
not certain that the organization

mouth, Dec. 12. (pecla! ) Plans for
the establishment of the Ackerman
loan fund, as a memorial to the late
educator and president of the normal
school, were formulated at a recent
meeting of the faculty. Various
flans were discussed but it was felt
that Mr. Ackerman would have
wished for nothing better than a fund
tc assist needy students to obtain
a normal training. The faculty com
mittee appointed to take , charge ot
the fund is making plans for a cam
paign which will give the alumni of
the normal school and other friends
oi Mr. Ackerman an opportunity to
contribute.
Three hundred dollars left by the
tudent body of the last summer
chool to be used for memorial pur
poses will bo added to the fund.
All money left over from the vari
ous student body activities will go to
the loan fund, according to an amend
ment to the student body constitu
tion, enacted recently.
