Large buying or ders from speculative sources came into the stock market over the election day recess and prices of various popular Issues especially oils, steels and kindred bares, were substantially ennascsd. The broad demand for oils was ma terially assisted by more advances for the crude products In almost all parts of the country. In the case of Mexican Petrol eum, however, which dominated the mar ket at a net gain of 7 points, the move ment was based mainly on technical con dition, shorts paying heavy tolls. Ralls, steels and like issues drifted aim lessly, but came briskly forward In thi last half of the session. Purchases of these stocks were accompanied by the weekly survey of trade authorities, which emphasised the more hopeful feeling In that Industry. Shares of concerns which may reason ably hope to benefit by increased holiday business, such as the department stores, also strengthened, but tobaccos and sev eral more obscur specialties were heavy or irregular. Leaders were undeterred by th rise of call money from 5 to 6 per cent in the final hour, many closing prices being at or near th day's top. Sales were 805,00$ shares. Cables stating that Germany Is prepar ing to meet her next reparation payment accounted for the moderate rally In mark a Stirling was firm, but remittances to aoost of the other allied countries were moderately lower on small trading. Dan ish bills were very heavy and far-eastern quotations continued to ease. Liberty and most other active oonus were irregular on rurtner pront-iaKin-, the International group also showing no marked trend. Total sales, par value, were $15,675,000. CLOSING STOCK QUOTATIONS. Many things have happened to business houses in that period. In that time we have seen and adjusted ourselves to severe depressions, panics peace and war. We take this occasion to thank not only those who have contributed to our success by confidence, patronage and credit, but those also who have merely wished us well. With pardonable pride we may regard ourselves as one of the Pioneer Houses of the Pacific Coast. Our business has been built, step by step, on the sure foundation of personal service, which-has brought us a large number of friends and many pleasant memories. A business which merely succeeds has not, we believe, attained the final goal of success. A business that begets and maintains pleasant associations, warm friendships and genuine confidence, cannot fail to attain the final goal. It will be our privilege in the future, as in the past, to try and deserve the con fidence and friendship of those whose opinion we most value. Our clients and friends may be assured that the safe traditions of yesterday will be the conservative policies of tomorrow. Our financial statement as of October 31, 1921, is as follows: We certify that the balance sheet shown below is in agreement with the head-office books of Carstens & Earles, Incorporated, Seattle, Washington, as at the close of business October 31, 1921, except as to branch-office ac counts, which books we have not examined.
