Scoured Exports Decline.
The wool clip of the Union of South
Africa for the year August 1. 1020, to July
11, 1021, Is estimated at approximately
400,000 bales, according to reports received
by the bureau of markets and crop estl
mates. Of this quantity about 389,000
bales were exported up to July 81, leaving
110,000 bales unsqld in .South Africa at the
and of July last,
These figures refer to the 1020-21 clip
only and do not include carry-over stocks
from previous seasons. Tho remainder of
th old clip was purchased by tho British
government, about 05,000 bales having
Deen registered under the purchase scheme
of the Imperial government.
Some notable changes are revealed in
the statistics relating to the exports from
the Union of South Africa during the first
half of 1021. Thua. tho exports of scoured
wools how a decline of ft, 303.530 pounds
as compared with the figures for the cor
responding six months of 1020, while the
exports of grease wool show an increase of
2,203,244 pounds similarly compared.
A significant factor in the wool trade
Of South Africa is the fact that Germany
Is returning as a purchaser. In prewar
days Germany alone took one-third of the
South African wool exports.

and substantial advances of stock prices
today were influenced solely by the lower
rediscounts announced by nine of the
12 federal reserve banks and concurred In
by the Bank of England.
Financial interests generally regarded
this a evidence thac deflation had made
further marked progress and that easier
credit conditions soon would prevail In
the world's leading markets.
The local money market reflected these
pnases tor a time, the a per cent opening
for call loans soon being cut to 4 per
cent. Later, however, on demand for
funds the rate rose to OVt per cent, that
figure holding at the close.
Bonds made a better showing relatively
than stocks, most of the several liberty
series recording highest prices of the year
with Victory 4a, which rose to par on ex
tensive accumulation.
Oils, steels, motors and equipments,
more or less as named, were in the fore
front of the day's operations at net gains
of one to five points. Mexican Petroleum
again being the feature.
Railroads were handicapped by fresh
labor disturbances and various specialties,
including tobaccos and the issues of the
several mail-order and chain-store group,
strengthened on, pool support. Sales were
oou.uuu snares.
Apart from a new low record for Ger
man marks at .045c, foreign exchange
strengthened after early irregularity.
Trading in bills was limited, however.
largely to British and French remittances.
Speedy sale of the new Chilean 110. 500,
00O loan offered further proof of sound in
vestment conditions. Various railway and
muusirial bonds strengthened on the ao
tion of the federal reserve board and in'
ternationala were better. Total sales, par
value, were $11,275,000.
