As this show is nearly' al! ft , - ) V M Aileen Stanley, "the Phonograph Girl" at Orpheum. comedy, it has been one of the most popular of the early Orpheum season, drawing large houses. The headliners of this show are Aileen Stanley, one of the reigning beauties of America's stgedom; Eduardo and Elisa Canslno, Spanish dancers, and Franker Wood and Bunee Wyde, a standard comedy couple. The added attraction Is Felix Adler, fresh from Broadway with Miss Frances A. Ross, In a potpourri of fun and song. Aileen Stanley is known as "the phonograph girl." She probably has made more song records for the various phonograph companies than any other "single." She as attrac tive personality, a voice of remark able clearness and her gowns arc beautiful. The Canslnos have been the hit of several Orpheum shows in Portland and their reception this year has been bigger than ever. "All Right Eddy" is the title of the melange offered by Franker Wood and Bunee Wyde. This comicality is a travesty that wins laughter from start to finish. Felix Adler Is a "nut" comedian with a style all his own. He proves at the end of his act that he is a singer of no mean ability and his partner. Miss Frances A. Ross, also shows that she has a fine voice as well as good looks. CARDS of thanks. Potentate Grant Receives Word of Action Taken by Committee on Behalf of Children. Construction of a Shriners hos pital for crippled .children In Port land, at an estimated cost of (200,000, will begin as quickly as plans can be completed, according to advices re ceived by Frank S. Grant, Illustrious potentate of Al Kader temple, yes terday. Potentate Grant yesterday re ceived the first complete details of the meeting of the board of trustees of the Shriners' hospital project. This meeting was held recently in Atlanta, Ga., and St. Louis. Mo. Plans for the Portland hospital to be constructed by the Shrine will be drawn by the firm of Heins, Reid & Adler, who designed the plans for the Scottish Rite crippled children's hos pital In Atlanta, Ga., which' will be the model for all of the subsidiary hospitals. Construction of the hospital In Portland according to the advices received!, will probably be under di rection of Mayor Baker, who will also be empowered to select the site and let the contract for the work. 950,000 to Be Spent Yearly. Members of the board of trustees estimate the cost of operating the hospitals to be erected in Portland and other points throughout the United States and Canada will amount to approximately 150.000 yearly. It is possible that extensions will be made to the various hospitals after they have been completo-d, if the de mand for services exceeds the ca pacity. However, this is a detail that will not be handled until the building programme agreed upon has been carried out. According to reports read at the meeting held in Atlanta, the board of trustees now has $950,000 of the first $1,000,000 In the banks and the second $1,000,000 of the hospital fund will be due on January 1. The pub lic, incidentally, is not called upon to aid in the hospital movement launched by the Shrine, all costs be ing defrayed out of a fund derived through a $2 per capita tax upon all members.. This has been approved by the imperial council. The central hospital for the crip pled children will be located In St. Louis, and its cost Is estimated at $300,000. In addition to the hospital in Portland, the board of trustees has selected Montreal, Canada, St. Paul and Minneapolis, San Francisco and Shreveport. La. In addition to these six hospitals the board also decided to construct later one hospital in Virginia, one in the New England states, and one in central Pennsylvania. Site Selectors Named. Philip D. Gordon, one of the trus tees in the hospital movement, will select the site and let the contract for the construction of the hospital in Montreal; John D. McGlllvray, trustee. will have charge of the construction of the San Francisco hospital; Oscar M. Landstrum, trustee of Helena, Mont., will have charge of the con struction of the hospital for St. Paul and Minneapolis, with the assistance of Charles Ovenshire of Minneapolis, who is past Imperial potentate, while Freeland Kendrick, who originated the crippled children's hospital plan; Forest Adair of Atlanta and Sam Cohran. chairman of the board of trustees, will have charge of the erection of the central hospital In Si. Louis and the subsidiary hospital to be located in Shreveport. The hospital planned for Portland will be built to accommodate 60 patients at one time. The average time for each patient in a hospital ranges from three to four months, thus giving the hospital an opportu nity of handling from 180 to 240 patients each year. Monument Idea Glvea Up. In addition to selecting the sites for the Shriners hospitals, the board of trustees decided to leave the ortho pedic work In all of the hospitals to the direction of a board composed of Dr. Hoke, Dr. Robert Osgood of Boston and Dr. A. McKensie Forbes of Mon treal, who are empowered to Increase this number to five if it is found expedient so to do. As an example of how the -work of transforming little misshapen bodies into healthy, robust children is taking hold in the Shrine, announcement was made in St. Louis that the members of El Katif temple of Spokane were planning on constructing: a crippled children's hospital in that city under the plans approved by the board of trustees and donating It to the board upon completion. Ideas on Paint Economy THERE'S one way to save on paint. That way is to use the best paints. Some think of paint economy as "cost per gallon." That is wrong. Cheap paint doesn't cover as much surface you need more gallons. Cheap paint is more difficult to spread, requires more labor, so the best paint costs no more when you've put it on the house than cheap paint does. More than that, it lasts five or more years longer, if properly applied, while cheap paint on the average begins cracking in twelve months. Good paint is an invest ment that saves money by preventing de terioration of the house. "Cheap" paint is the only paint that really costs you anything, Don't allow, surfaces to rof It costs lest to paint them. We've made paints for western use for 72 years.
