Wheat business In the country yesterday
was of moderate proportions. The de

pressure to sell on the part of farmers.
The tone of the market on the whole was
better than a few days ago. The weaker

the factors.
Wheat bids at the Merchants' Exchange
were from 1 to 2 cents for August delivery.
September wheat ranged from unchanged
to 2 cents higher and October from 1 cent
lower to 2 cents higher.
In the coarse grain market, oats were
unchanged. August and September brewing
barley advanced 1 and September and
October corn SO cents on bid.

Second and Third Crops of Alfalfa Are
Being Cut.
Moderate temperatures prevailed during
the week wltfl some cloudiness and a few
local showers, says the weekly Oregon
crop bullettn of the weather bureau. The
heavy showers, which occurred" In parts of
Grant county at the close of the preceding
week, cauaed considerable local damage.
In some places these showers were accom
panied by hall.
Practically all small grain Is mature.
Harvest continues, but is nearing comple
tion except In the more elevated districts.
Threshing Is generally well advanced. Corn
has been helped by showers, but Is s.till In
need of more rain in most unlrrigated dis
tricts. Irrigated corn la doing well.
Picking of peaches and Bartlett pears
continued. Some peaches and pears have
been blown from the trees. Apples and
late pears are sizing well. Evergreen
blackberries are becoming plentiful.
Haying continues. The second crop of
alfalfa is being cut In the more elevated
districts, while in the milder sections the
third cutting Is in the stack and the fourth
crop is making good growth. Unlrrigated
meadows have been somewhat helped by
showers, but are mostly dry. Domestic
pastures, where not Irrigated, and the low
er ranges are . dry, but irrigated pastures
and the higher ranges are good. Stock Is
generally In good condition.
Large quantities of potatoes are being
shipped from Malheur county. Most po
tatoes are mature, but some very late
plantings are still growing, and have been
helped by showers. Vegetables are suffer
ing from cutworms in northwestern coun
ties. Unlrrigated gardens need rain. Mel
ons and tomatoes are plentiful. Hops are
doing fairly well, and are approaching
maturity.

offered, the difference in their types, and
the wide range of the character of security that
gives them value, make it practically impossible
for any individual to judge correctly which
"bonds are best suited for investment. To procure
the necessary information requires the services
of highly trained experts.
It takes years to build up such an organization
of specialists. It requires large capital to
make it efficient. But the protection it affords
investors makes it well worth while, alike to
the bank and its customers.
When you invest in Bonds at the Lumbermens,
do so in the knowledge that EVERY SECURITY
offered you has passed the strictest tests and
is suitable for the bank's own investment.
