to the fact that growers are unwilling to
accept prices which are now being offered-
Dealers are offering prices under
the distance from Portland. In the ma
jority of instances the farmers are said to
be holding out for a dollar or better and
there has consequently been an Inability on
the part of the purchaser and the grower
to get together.
It was announced yesterday that a com
mittee representing the farmers of Pen
dleton and Umatilla county will meet with
the Merchants' Exchange members Thurs
day afternoon at 3 o'clock for the purpose
of discussing the new grain discount rules.

Advance in Prices Expected by Trade
Within Next Few Days.
As a result of the present strength of
the cheese market and the unusual de
mand which has been developing, an ad
vance in prices Is expected by the trade
within the next few days.
An especial demand has been evident
for several days for Tillamook cheese,
with the inability to supply this demand.
Orders for cheese are coming in not only
from the east but also from southern and
central California.
The Tillamook association has announced
that it is short and that it is unable to
take care of only a small percentage of
the orders. At the present time the Job
bing price here on full cream triplets is
5 cents, with Young Americas and Long-'
horns a cent higher. An advance of 2
or 3 cents over this price is considered
not at all unlikely.
Cheese markets in the east also are
firm, and in Wisconsin there was an ad
vance several days ago. The general
firmness of the cheese market Is declared
here to be partially due to the heavy
buying for export. The buying at New
York began around 164 to 17 cents, ac
cording to advices received here, but at
the close of the week sales were made up
to IS y and 19 cents. There also has
been a strong demand for cheese for local
consumption and for speculative purposes,
and this has added to the scarcity.
The local butter market is holding
steady, with no price changes. There is
a good demand for the higher grade but
ter, which is hard to get.
The egg market also is unchanged.
Current receipts were being purchased yes
terday at around 29 and 30 cents, with
some higher grade stuff at above those
figures.
The review of the butter and egg mar
ket received yesterday from Swift & Com
pany at Chicago follows:
"A larger supply of eggs than is re
quired for current use has resulted In
some being placed In storage, and lower
markets in producing and consuming cen
term. The quality is not generally satis
factory, due to weather conditions, which
emphasizes the necessity for greater care
of eggs on the farm and more frequent
marketing.
Butter production is keeping up re
markably well, considering weather con
ditions, and the market In Chicago is
closing with a little easier tone.
"Receipts of poultry have been liberal.
and markets are generally quoted on
lower basis, resulting in lower prices for
live poultry In the country."

NEW YORK. Jluy 26. Trading In tDCk
today was a Uifle broader and more active
but the increased dealings were largely at
the expense of values, many leadera show
ing extreme declines of 1 to 2 points.
President HardinE's messafe urging Pay-.
ment of obligations to the railroads, farm
credits and facilitation of exports failed
to stimulate bulltsn initiative.
Rails were listless and little altered, but
steels, equipments, oil, motors and the
many specialties more or less dependent
upon those issues were under intermittent
pressure.
Leathers were adversely artecieo or me
poor quarterly statement of the Central
Leather company, and advices trom tne
middle west nd New England indicated
further slackening o industrial production.
Sales 38O.000 shares.
Publication of the United States steel
corporation's statement for the second
quarter, issued after the close ef the sea
son, showed total earnings of $21,892,016,
the smallest returns of any quarter since
March. 1013.
The nnlv develoDment in the money mar
ket where call .and time loens held at
recent quotations, was a slight easing of
rates for bank acceptances and additional
buying of commercial paper. Another Ta
ction in foreian exchange, wixn espeuiai
heaviness In Scandinavian remittances was
a sain ascribed to sales In London and
Paris of sterling bills against purchases-of
dollar exchange.
Business in the bona maraei ieu
slightly, but the recent strong tone among
rails and new corporate olierings was unj
maintained. Liberty issues were Irregular,

ness of exchange, showing variable ad

How $925 Invested Now
May. Yield a Profit of $1505
In Yesterday's advertisement we showed how $1360
profit is possible on a $1100 investment in 5 Brazilian
bonds. Today we show the possibilities of even a more
handsome profit in the 4 bonds of the issue of 1910
all made possible by the big premium now being paid in
Europe for the American dollar a-rate of exchange that
cannot long continue.
