EMAND IS LIGHTER NOW
Irlces Slightly Easier as Season
Draws to Close MJIIs East
Well Occupied,
Not over 1-0 per cent of the Oregon wool
clip remains to be disposed of. The largest
accumulation left la at Baker and the remaining-
cllpa are scattered throughout the
tate. This surplus will graduallr he
worked off, either by sale or consignment.
There Is not much demand for wool at
present and the feeling In the market Is
Little easier than it was. Most1 of the
western sections have been cleaned out ex
cept Montana and In that stats the bulk
f the clip, which is smaller this year-than
wuaJ, has been disposed of.
In the east manufacturers continue to
fctjy wool In a moderate manner, taking
stocks only as they need them and select
ing the beat wools available always. A
talr quantity of wool la going Into con
sumption constantly and bo prices keep
steady as a general thing, although some
types of scoured wools, notably the poorer
descriptions of Cape, have been a little
easier.
The demand for three-eights combing
wools has been good In the east, particu
larly for the high-grade territory types
which have commanded as high as &5 cents,
clean, alto up h the bulk of the wool sold
has been around 50 and 52 cents, clean
basis. There has been a good call for the
fine and fine medium wools of the terri
tory type In the original sacks, for which
the mills axe paying the usual prices, that
fa, RO and "O cents for French combing
wools and around 75 cents for fairly good
combing territory, while a little of the
clothing type is being sold at about 60 and
45 cents, depending upon the wool.
The position of the mills Is well Indi
cated by the statement of President Wil
liam M. Wood Just before he sailed abroad,
when he said that the mills of the Ameri
can Woolen company were occupied to 95
per cent of their capacity. This means, of
course, that they are. drawing on their re
serve supplies of wool heavily and would
seem to indicate the necessity of making
heavier purchases In the eastern markets
In the not distant future. Their buyer, has
taken considerable quantities of wool in
Oregon, taking a little here and there at
prices which are on the top aide of the
market because they can afford to outbid
the dealers.

NTTW TOHK. July 19. Washington to

Issues followed yesterday's uncertain
course. Strength in several prominent is

notably General . Electric, Studebaker and
Chandler.
Sugars, tobaccos, leathers and the more
miscellaneous stocks moved within re
stricted areas. Total sales of 315.000
shares spproxlmated the year's low record
for a full session.
Fresh reactions occurred in foreign ex
