The possibility that the American wheat
erou has been oversold has agitated the
pr...n trade for some time past and h
been a prominent factor at times in lm
parting ntrenth to the market. A strong
presentation of the statistical position of
Wheat by the Concrete Elevator company
a Minneapolis concern, interests growers
wild dealer alike. The elevator company
pays in its market letter:
"If statistics ever counted for anything:,
the-- is but one answer to the following

WTTKAT BUYING ON LARGER SCALE
About 2,000,000 Bushels Change Hands in
Last M eek.
All wheat bids were unchanged on the
local board yesterday, notwithstanding

There has been an active buying move

2.000,000 bushels of wheat have changed
hands in the last week.
The coarse-grain trade was quiet. Corn
bids were reduced $1 and February white
cats were raised 50c. Other bids were the
aame as on Wednesday.
Eastern advices reported export wheat
aales of 150.000 bushels and seaboard sales
fof 300,000 bushels of corn. Italy is offer
ing to resell durum wheat.
A New York wire said: "A late cable
aays the president of the Argentine re
public will present a proposition to Le
senate on the 17th of this month recom
mending that exports of wheat be subject
to a surtax of three Argentine gold dol

BUTTER DECLINES AGAIN TODAY.
Two-cent Drop In Print Price Announced
by Cresuneriea.
A 2-eent decline In butter will go into
effect this morning, city creameries an
nounced. Prjnts will be listed on the
box lot basis of 47 cents for plain wrapped.
The buying price of butterfat will be
reduced 1 cent. In view of the decline,
there was practically no trading in cubes
yesterday.
There has been no oversupply of butter
here to warrant a drop, but the change
was made necessary by a 3-cent decline
at Seattle yesterday. It Is understood
that the northern cut was brought about
by the condenseries, which are seeking to
get milk prices down before they resume
canning operations there. The Hillsboro
and Forest Grove plants have already reopened.
