cial ) Unofficial complete returns
for Hood River county were available
when north precincts completed their
count today. Tne republican tide that
swept the nation etruck here with
force In all offices except for United
States senator. Chamberlain received
1116 votes to Stanfield's 1009. The
Party tide extended to county offices,
and J. R. Nickelsen, repreentatlve
nominee for Joint senator from Hood
River and Wasco counties, defeated
the democratic nominee, J. H. Hazlett,
in this count by a vote of 1141 to 968.
Incomplete returns from Wasco give
Nickelsen 2146 to Hazlett' s 1302 votes
there. John Baker (rep.), for district
attorney, defeated A. J. Derby (dem.)
by 1211 to 947. H. L. Haebrouck.

tonight, for Benton county gave

2795, Chamberlain 2055. No record
was kept by the judges or clerks of
the vote on the rest of the ticket nor
on the measures. The county ticket
went republican straight for the first
time in at least 30 years.

ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 3. Missouri
tonight was safely republican by
more than 100,000 " on the principal
national and state offices, but in
many of the minor local positions
the vote was fairly close, with the
Republican candidates generally lead
ing. . With all but about 500 out of 3810
precincts missing, Harding had a
majority of more than 120,000; Arthur
M. Hyde led John M. Atkins for gover
nor by about 110,000, , and Senator
Selden P. Spencer was running far
ahead of his ticket for re-election,
polling nearly 150,000 more votes
than his opponent. Breckenridge

precincts In Jackson county tonight
gave Harding 3166. Cox 1872. and in
the senatorial contests Stanfield. 3281.
Chamberlain 3049. One of the four
missing precincts was from Ashland,
another from Medford and two from
outlying districts. On the face of these
returns, all constitutional amendments
were defeated, but with the divided
legislative session In doubt. It was
estimated that Stanfleld would carry
tne county oy zuu. He carried Medford.
The republicans carried every county
office except that of Rawles Moore,
democrat, who defeated Georee M.
Roberts, incumbent, for prosecuting
attorney. Mayor Gates and Council-
men Keene, Gaddls. Miles, Antle,
Dressier and Hill were re-elected.
By a very small margin the nron-
osition of removing the courthouse
from Jacksonville to Medford was de
feated, according to present returns.
E. V, Carter of Ashland and Ren f
Sheldon of Medford were elected as
state representatives by substantial
majorities, cneiaon s being a reelec
tion.
WASCO ELECTS 1 DEMOCRAT
Republican Majorities Given to
Harding and Stanfleld.
THE DALLES, Or.. Nov. 3. (Spe
cial.) All measures listed on the bal
lot in the city election carried with
out serious opposition. Only one. con
test for office was on the ballot,
Joe Heroux winning over Bert
Wyatt for water commissioner in the
2d ward. Measures on the ballot
for the increase of the city budget
were passed.
Wasco county has turned In re
publican majorities for every candi
date but one. Harding got an unof
ficial lead of 1266 over Cox with all
precincts counted in full. Stanfleld
led Chamberlain by 611 votes. The
one democratic exception was Frances
Galloway, district attorney, who was
victorious over Paul W. Childers, re
publican, by more than 600 votes.
More than 4000 votes were cast in
Wasco county, this being about four
fifths of the total registration
.Representative Sinnott rolled up a
lead of more than 1000 votes over his
democratic opponent, J. H. Graham
of Baker. John R. Nickelsen. re
publican, defeated J. H. Hazlett, dem
ocrat, for the state eenatorship by
more than two to one. The office
is supported Jointly by Hood River
and Wasco counties.
On the county section of the ticket
all republicans were elected. Out
of 39 precincts In Wasco county, only
seven were listed in the democratic
column. .

cial.) Charles F. Eggiman was elect
ed mayor in the "election yesterday to
succeed E. E. Morrison, who has filled
the office for the last four years.
M. C. Bressler was the only other
candidate opposing Mr. Eggiman.
L. J." Lepley and James Laxton
were elected councilmen, each to
serve four years, and A. E. Jarrett
and W. N. Long will serve two years
each. Mrs. Vina McLean was elect
ed recorder. O. B. Kessey was elect

Democrats Defeated for Legisla

BEND, Or., Nov. 3. (Special.)
With county election returns lacking
only the completion of the count In
two of the largest Bend precipcts to
be virtually decisive. Indications
point strongly to the election of Den
ton G. Burdick of Redmond and H. J.
Overturf of Bend, both republicans,
as winners over R. E. Bradbury of
Klamath county, democrat, for the
two seats in the lower house of the
legislature allowed this district.
Jay H. Upton of Prlneville is with
out opposition for the senate. A. J.
Moore, republican Incumbent, is lead
ing Ross Farnham. democrat, for
district attorney of Deschutes coun
ty. R. W. Sawyer, republican, has
already a decisive majority over J.
A. Eastes. democrat, for county
judge. S. E. Roberts, republican in
cumbent, is considered safe for re
election as sheriff against R. H. Fox,
democrat. M. W. Knickerbocker,
democrat, is conceded the county com
missionershlp over John A. Marsh,
republican.
J. P. Haner, Clyde M. McKay, J.
Alton Thompson, C. P. Niswonger and
R. B. Gould, all republicans, ran with
out opposition for the respective po
sitions of clerk, treasurer, school su
perintendent, coroner and surveyor.
In the municipal election, held
simultaneously with the general bal
loting, E. D. Gilson was chosen may
or, Miss M. E. Coleman. - treasurer,
and G. H. Baker. Joseph Innes and
N. H. Gilbert, C. J. Leverett. H. E.
Allen and Lon L. Fox as members of
the city council to serve for two
years.
A county Initiative measure, de
claring Bend the permanent county
seat of Deschutes county, has carried
with but little opposition.
DOUGLAS REPUBLICANS WIN
Returns to Date Show Party Has
Made' Almost Clean Sweep.
ROSEBURG, Or., Nov. 3. (Special.)
With only two candidates in the
doubtful column, the-republican party
made a clean sweep in Douglas county
at yesterday 3 election, and when all
precincts have reported It will be
found probably that the entire ticket
has been elected. The race for county
clerk between I. B. Riddle,- republican,
and E. H. Lenox, democrat is neck-and-neck
and the outcome will not be
known until a number of outlying
precinct reports have'been received.

Out of 69 precincts in' this county
oniy six remained to be heard from at
a late hour today. These show that
Harding has carried the county by
ciose to zouu majority and that Stan
field will have a lead of almost 1000
over Chamberlain. Van Winkle, for
attorney-general, received 162 votes
so far recorded, while O. P. Coshow of
this county, seeking the same office,
had 925 votes, with several precincts
unrecorded.

cial.) Clackamas county has gone re
publican from start to finish, giving
large majorities to the national ticket
and to Robert N. Stanfield, who has a
lead of 1455 over Chamberlain with
only 11 precincts to hear from out of
a total of 82 precincts.
Stanfield polled 5129 and Chamber
lain 3674. The entire republican
ticket has been elected, though hard
fights were, made by the democrats
to land the offices of county judge,
district attorney and sheriff.
For district attorney Livv Stinn ban
a lead over Gilbert L. Hedges, incum
bent, of 361, with one precinct out.
Harvey E. Cross has a majority over
R- B. Beatie of 204, with two pre
