Indorse Candidate.
Mayor Baker will close hie cam
paign for re-election with aa address
at Linn ton tonight. His talks to the
Linnton residents will be confined to
the need of the 8-mill tax and a gen
eral survey of his administration.
The mayor's campaign has been
marked by Us lack of "mud-slinging,"
It having been the request of Mayor
Baker to all his supporters early in
the campaign that so far as the
mayor's campaign was concerned it
should be clean and upon issues and
not personalities.
Probably no candidate for mayor
has ever been given as extensive sup
port as is being given Mayor Baker
in his campaign for re-election.
Thie support is coming from men
and women in all walks of life and in
cludes that of thousands of individ
uals who are backing him as' the re
sult of his record during his present
term as well aa all sorts of organiza
tions who have Indorsed him, not alone
on his record generally, but upon in
dividual lines of activity, which .nave
aided ln the general prosperity and
progress of the city.
For instance, he has the support of
the building trades council with some
9000 men, as well as various lo
cals. In addition there is an auxil
iary "Baker-for-re-electlon" commit
tee composed entirely of labor lead
ers numbering In all about 100 men
He has won the solid support of all
patriotic organizations, many of which
have come out openly with letters of
indorsement to Mayor Baker's cam
paign. And in several instances such
letters have set a precedent ln politi
cal campaigns.
Indorsements have been given the
mayor unsolicited from- organizations
representing tradesmen, merchants,
manufacturers and business men in
general. His campaign committee is
composed of men and women who
urged him to seek re-election. On hia
desk at the city hall are hundreds ot
letters from individuals pledging their
support. His reputation, as an en
ergetic chief executive is not confined
to Portland alone, but has spread far
afield.

WHISPERING
"would make a man with a wooden leg

CTHJHERMAN, CLAY Sz CO. take
fl Peasure in inviting you to
iMfl hear "Whispering," the
dance sensation of the year, on a
Victor record.
A small shipment for immediate re
lease has just been received from the
Victor Talking Machine Company
by express.
rWhispering" was written and com-.
posed in California, published in Cal
ifornia, and played for this Victor.
record by Paul Whiteman's Ambas
sador Orchestra itself originally a
California organization.
As a fox-trot," Whispering"has swept
the country like wildfire.
As a record it is possibly the most per
fect for dancing ever issued by the
Vidtor Talking Machine Company.
The combination, "Whispering" on
a Victor record, is so irresistible that
one person, after hearing it played in
our Vidrola department, exclaimed:
"It 'would make a man with a wooden
leg want to dance!"
Remember: You really haven't heard
