DRINK SELLERS FINED
Rivalry of Merchants Lands Them
In Net of ProWbition. Iaw.
Commercial rrvalrjf between Jim
Cocas and Lewis Mitchell, soft drink
dealers. Fifth and Burnslde Btreets,
was adjudicated yesterday In federal
court by Judge Wolverton, when both
were arraigned on the charge of sell
ing grape . juice with an unlawful
potency.
Deputy Federal Attorney Flegel. for
the prosecution, presented the gov
ernment's contention that both deal
ers were keenly Interested in the su
perior alcoholic content of their grape
Juice, relying upon satisfied customers
to - spread the word. Their rivalry
was said to be common knowledge on
Eurnside street.
All controversy over the respective
merits of the unlawful drink sold by
the two defendants was set at rest
when Judge Wolverton fined each
$2o0, thus registering judicial opinion
that the contest had been a tie.
