The eastern butter market felt the ef fect of falling prices in other commodities last week, which caused buyers to pur chase from hand to mouth only:: Prices made a decline of about He, .but recovered practically all lofcses at the close of the meek. Hot weather made a shurtaga of top grades and the " demand for these caused the late price advances, Under arude stock failed to move and the mar ket ia not in a healthy condition. Con sumptive buylr has fallen off slightly and the closing of numerous condensory plants, principally in the east, has un settled the market btil further. Shortage Is chiefly in' he southwest with a good demand lor fine centralized as well as fine whole milk butter. Very little move ment of stiiige butler took place during the past week. The storage outlook, is not particularly encouraging. The steamer Drothingham brought -100 casks of Dan ish butter to New York and another large shipment of Argentine butter fas also re ported. Danish butter is selling . at &5o to 57c anrl is being used in cast largely in place of centralized. At San Francisco the market was char acterized by inactivity and light demand. Under a slight 'accumulation of stocks, the market became easier and prices declined Vac. However, the decline was recovered and at the coles D--acor6 butter showed an advance of c over the previous week. With the increasing supplies of medium grades and offerings from outside points, the tone of the market became easier and tended to reflect to . .e extent the gen eral conomic depression. Supplies of really finer grades were just about sufficient to meet the demand for this quality. 61GAB MARKET CONTINUES WEAK Yakima Bert Will Be on Hand In Short Time Java Sugar Offered. ADDRESS O 62, OREGON IAN Railway Issues Continue Their Re cent Advance; Money Market Sliows Little Change. NEW YORK, Oct. 4. Lacking more def inite or convincing reasons, the uncertain tendencies manifested .by the stock market again today were ascribed generally to local monetary conditions, as revealed at the close of last week's business. No ma- j terial change was shown by the federal reserve bank, but the combined clearing .' house institutions reported the largest actual reserve deficit or the year, loans and discounts also expanding to a ew high record for that period. These conditions, it was apprehended, might cause some calling of loans. The course of the money market, however, of fered no hint of such action, call 'loans holding at 1 per cent until lust before tile close, when moderate sums commanded 8 per cent. on the surface the stock market fol lowed its see-saw movements of. the last two weeks. Kails scared additional gains and Industrials and specialties were hesi tant or heavy, but rallied substantially in the final dealings. ' headers of the stoel Industry issued re assuring statements, but the trend of steel, equipment, copper, sugar and shipping is sues once more indicated that recent com modity price reductions have only served to Increase the cautious attitude of con sumers. Conspicuous features of the transporta tion divisions embrace the Pacifies, notably the Canadian Pacific, which roadea net gain of almost four points, and such sec ondary rails as "Soo" and Kansas City Southern. Sales were 90u,000 shares. Foreign exchange rates were decidedly mixed, he British remittance easing, with moderate strength in French, and Scandi navian bills, ali on nominal offerings. - Hallway bonds-, notably Atchison, St. Paul and St. Louis & San Francisco is sues, again moved upward with related stocks, also local tractions. Liberty bonds were firm, but the foreign graiip as barely steady. Total sales, par value.-ag-gregated I17,250.K)0. Old United States bonds were unchanged on call. '' ... CLOSlNti STOCK QUOTATIONS.' .
