C V THK. 31011X1KG- OItGOiNlA, JIONDAY, JUNE 7, 1920 r. I ' 4 .1 I FISH LHW HELD VIOLATED CLACKAMAS PETITION URGES PBOSECUTIOX OF FISHERMEN. Residents of County Declare That Salmon Supply of Willamette River Reins Exhausted. Statements that the Willamette river salmon supply is being exhaust ed rapidly by fishermen who care nothing for the state law prohibiting the taking of salmon with gill nets, foul hooks and snagging: outfits, are contained in a circular petition, signed by 74 residents of Clackamas county, ' which will be presented to Gilbert Hedges, district attorney, this morn ing. The petition declares that the Gill bill, which regulates fishing in the river, was passed to insure a contin uous salmon supply for Oregon. Fish ermen are violating provisions of this statute when they fish with gill nets, foul hooks and other devices which are condemned by the law, says the petition. District Attorney Hedges is in formed in the petition that the egg take should be "jealously guarded," as it provides seed for state hatch eries, that under the guise of trolling, foul .hooks, snags and nets are being used to catch fish above the deadline at Oswego, that this practice contin ues 24 hours each day. that the fish ermen who employ these illegal de vices boast that they will never be prosecuted in Clackamas county courts and that it is said that the small offender who fishes with two lines is prosecuted vigorously, while the major offender is disregarded. Residents who circulated and signed the petition charge in it that when an offender who deserves heavy punishment is brought before Clacka mas county courts he usually is dis charged without heavy fine or sen tence. The petition requests Mr. Hedges to prosecute persons who openly vio late the state laws, saying that by doing so he will "do away with the charge that the district attorney's of fice is being used for political pur- j poses. The petition is signed by residents of Gladstone. Jennings Lodge, Ore gon City, Milwaukie and smaller towns of the county. B'NAI B'RITH IS HOST President Mendelsohn Will Be Kntcrtained Here Today. In honor of President Mendelsohn and Grand Orator Marks, grand lodge officers of district four. ' With crowds at THE OAKS on Sunday the company proved a de lightful surprise. Folks didn't quite expect to find so much beauty and so much fun in the big park auditorium. But they found ifc all, nevertheless. The company is one of the big attractions at THE OAKS. An other one is the big dancing pa vilion, where, for the present, we are offering two evenings of dancing each week Wednesday and Saturday. The dance pavilion is the home of one of the best orchestras on the Pacific coast. The floor is in excellent condition. The surround ings at THE OAKS make dancing here a pure joy. You will find everything here for your entertainment. JOHN F. CORDRAV, Manager. Carfare 6c from First and Alder DANCING TAUGHT All dances taught In 8 three - hour lessons.
