18 THE 3IORNING OREGOMAX, THURSDAY, MAY 20. 1920 " FLOWER'S PLEA FOR WOOD TELLING ONE Dynamic Speech Delivered at Corvallis Meeting. GREAT CROWD RESPONSIVE Hoover Club Officials Urge Votes for General as Bet Sloans for Beating Jobuson. CORVALLIS. Or., Mar 19- (Spe cial.) The most largely attended po litical meeting of the present cam paign was held in the courthouse here last night, when Montaville Flowers spoke to a crowded hall for nearly two interesting hours, pouring in i broadside after broadside and reason after reason as to why Leonard "Wood is the man the republicans of Oregon should vote for at the Friday pri maries. . Mr. Flowers is a personal friend of General Wood and was a friend of Koosevelt, this fact enabling him to enrich his remarks with intimate ob servations of the two men and their relation to each other and world af fairs. He asserted that Wood is much more than the country's greatest sol dier; that he is a statesman of rare ability, an executive with few equals and a business man who has success fully conducted more large businesses than all the presidents of the United States put together. He then proceeded to verify his statements with logic that used up all the Wood buttons brought to the meeting, as the crowd filing out after the meeting demanded them. He made no apologies for the fact that Mr. Wood had served his country faith fully as a military man, but asserted that it was the least of his achieve ments. He drove home his proofs with telling effect that brought round after round of applause. Hoover Men for Wood. Many men stood throughout the meeting. Every other candidate has had representatives, but the general expression on the street this morning was that the Flowers meeting, was the best of all and did most good for the cause represented. After the meeting W. H. Savage, Benton county president of the Hoo ver club, gave out a statement favor ing the candidacy of Mr. Wood. This morning Paul V. Maris, vice-president of the Hoover club, did the same thing. , "I believe that Mr. Hoover got out of the race with the sole idea in mind of making less possible the success of Mr. Johnson in Oregon," said Mr. Savage, who is president of the state fair board. 'I believe that Hoover supporters should take their cue from ).'tu and place their, votes where they will do most to defeat Johnson. I be lieve they should vote for Leonard Wood. While, of course, I speak only for myself, I am glad that there is an opportunity to cast my vote against Johnson for so fine an Ameri can as Leonard Wood." Mr. Flowers Here Today. Paul V. Maris made practically the same statement this morning. "Not only can I conscientiously vote for Mr. Wood because - of what he him self is and represents," said Mr. Maris, "but I think there is no question that he is so much stronger In Oregon than is Mr. Lowden, that he is our one best bet to defeat Johnson, which, after all, is Mr. Hoover's sole reason for getting out of the race. Kven if I did not admire Wood as much as I do I would feci that Mr. Hoover's sacrifice had been in vain did I not vote for Wood and thus do my share in help ing to eliminate Hiram Johnson." Mr. Flowers spoke on the subject of Mexico at the business men's lunch eon Tuesday. He left this morning for Oregon City and expects to speak in Portland tomorrow. Portland, Or. nilllllllllMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIillllllllllllllfllllllMIIIIIIIIIIII Why Castoria? VEARS ago Castor Oil, Paregoric, Drops and Soothing Syrups were the "remedies in common use for Infants and Children; Castor Oil so nauseating as to be almost impossible and the others all containing Opium in one form or another,;, but so disguised as to make them pleasant to the taste, yet really to stupify the child and give the appearance of relief from pain. ' It required years of research to find a purely vegetable combination that would take the place of these disagreeable, unpleasant and vicious remedies that from habit had become almost universal. This was the inception of, and the reason for, the introduction of Fletcher's Castoria, and for over 30 years it has proven its -. worth, received the praise of Physicians everywhere and become a' household" word among mothers. A remedy ESPECIALLY prepared for Infante and Children and no mother .would think of giving to her baby a remedy that she would use for herself,1 without consulting a physician. x : 1 Tli r : mi : . rnMni.-3 PER CEKT.
