Sam Skajo Banich. arrested by Patrolmen Meacham, was also compelled to contribute $50 on a -charge of violating the prohibition law. He gave notice of appeal and his bail was placed at $250. Chinese Fined tor Gambling. The raid of a lottery game at 98 North Fourth street last Saturday night re sulted in eight Chinese being com pelled to pay fines of $5 each in the municipal court yesterday. The raid was conducted by Police Sergeant Bpps and Patrolmen Craig and Rigas. AD Club Meeting Tomorrow. Harry Murphy, proprietor of the Harrison street pharmacy, who was fined $200 by District Judge Jones recently for leaving his store without a registered pharmacist in charge, but whose fine was suspended pending good behavior, was accused of the same offense in a warrant issued yesterday by the dis trict attorney's office. Flag-g Scenic company, said to be the largest organization of its kind on the Pacific coast. Walter B. Armstrong, accompa nied by his wife, will leave Portland tonight for Los An geles, i Mr. Armstrong has been con- t nected with Portland theatrical life for the last 20 years. He waa first on this coast to con ceive the idea of giving presen tations with motion pictures, and as far back as 1904, when the biggest cinemas were two reel train robberies and animal pictures, he was offering at the Star theater interludes with live actors and real animals, as well as those on the screen. At that time "Fatty," or Roscoe Ar buckle was singing at the Star and drawing from Mr. Arm strong $22.50 a week. The management of the Peo ples Amusement company dur ing the time which it operated 28 houses in and around Port land, was for several years in Mr. Armstrong's hands. He left the Peoples to superintendent the building of the National theater, which under his man- I agement later became known as the Strand and is today the f Rivoll. Geary and Josephi conduct the examination. The prisoner Is said to have left a wife and child in the north while he eloped with his stenographer. Guide Board Torn Down, Is Charge. In lieu of chains. F. M. Jansberg said to have torn down a guide board on Humphrey boulevard in en- eavoring to afford traction for the rear wheels of a mired automobile Sunday. H. R. Moy, road supervisor and deputy sheriff, happened along about that time and placed Jansberg nder arrest for the injury to county property. The penalty for the offense, if Jansberg's guilt is proved, ranges from three to 12 months in jail or from $-10 to $500 in fines. Chief Jenkins Back at Work. After having been absent from the police station for the past three weeks as the result of suffering from an attack of the smallpox. Chief of Police Jenkins was at his desk once more yesterday and assumed charge of the work of the police. During his absence. Chief of Inspectors John Clark was acting chief of police. Radio Masts Readt. Two radio masts have been erected on the top of the postoffice building and tonight, if all goes well, messages will be re ceived. Telephone Engineer .Allen of the forest service has placed the masts and will try out his new equip ment for the Mount Hood lookout. At present the communication will be between the postoffice and the port radio Inspectors home. Dogs in Demand. No less than 1000 people have answered the call for homes for the 75 orphaned dogs that were at the Oregon Humane society's kennels last week. There still re main a dozen "bow-wows" for those who desire them. Sale of the dogs has netted the society about $304, this being the only source of income, the organization has. Heavt Fines Imposed. Four viola tors of the national prohibition law were haled into federal court yes terday and heavy fines were levied as consequence. All pleaded guilty. V. One dollar fine and ten days in jail is the penalty Alfred Enes must pay for altering the signature on a war savings stamp. Enes was arrested on his way from the . penitentiary just after having served a nine months term for a robbery in Polk county. He is alleged to have secured the stamps among other loot at -this time. Switchman Is Hurt. Arthur F. Tike, 392 Salmon street, a switch man employed at the Northern Pa cific terminal yards, had his right hand severely mangled when two cars ran over it while he was at work yesterday. He was taken to Good Samaritan hospital where it was necessary to amputate his hand. Mrs. R. P. Kramer Dead. The death of Mrs. Ruth Posner Kramer occurred in this city on February i, 1920. She was 27 years of age. Mrs. Kramer was' the wife of Edward B. Kramer and a daughter of Mrs. Samuel Posner. She leaves two chil dren, Samuel and Fred Kramer. Electrician Is Injured. R. BL Hockins, 334 Tenino street, an elec trician, had both ankles fractured yesterday afternoon when he fell from a lumber car at the Pacific Lum ber & Manufacturing company's plant.
