RECEIPTS OF FLOUR
BREAK ALL RECORDS
Million and Half Barrels
Broujfit From Interior.
WHEAT SHOWS LARGE GAIN
Activity of Northwestern Milling
Industry Swells Figures of
Port for Past Year. .
A total of 14.147 carloads of wheat,
eats, barley, flour and hay were received
at Portland In the past ear aa against re
ceipt of 14,602 car In the preceding year.
The wheat run showed a gain of 1134
cars over 918. and there waa an Increase
of 1327 cars In flour receipts, but oats, bar
ley and hay showed a falling; off.
It was a big year for the milling indus
try and this accounted mainly for the
Increased receipts, though exports of wheat
were also a factor. Heavy buying of flour
from Interior mills by the grain corpora
tion resulted In the largest receipt of
flour for any year In the history of the
port. The lighter arrivals of oats, barley
and hay were due to the smaller crops.
Receipts of these commodities at Port
land during past years Were as follows:

COKX siABHET IS WEAK AND LOWER
Other Feed Grain Bids Are Higher on
. I-ocal Board.
The corn market was easier yesterday,
but the other feed grains continued steady
to firm. January and February corn bids
were lowered 50c. White sacked oats
were BOo higher and bulk clipped oats un
changed to 25c higher. Northwestern
barley bids were the same as Tuesday,
-while eastern bulk barley averaged 60o
dearer. No sales were posted. The San
Francisco barley market was strong, with
sales of December at $3.70. Chicago barley
closed llHc higher at 1.51Vi for De
cember and $1.51 for May.
Reviewing the corn and oata situation
In England. Broomhali cabled: "Corn sit
uation In the United Kingdom remains
practically unchanged. Offerings of Plate
have been In good volume, especially for
the - deferred positions, which are being
put . forward at concessions. Feeding de
mand In general can be considered quite
steady. American mixed Is offered in
somewhat larger quantities at slightly
lower prices. Arrivals of Argentine corn
are expected to Improve. Argentine con
ditions continue favorable for the growth
of the new crop. Foreign Interests con
tinue to absorb fair amounts. Oats trade
has not been active. Demand for the
present appears abated, although offer
ings of Plate at lower prices meet with
ready absorption. American sorts are In
fair supply, but prices for forward ship
ment are above spot parity."
Terminal receipts, in cars, were reported

otsto Authorities Estimate Damage at
SO Per Cent of Remainder of Crop.
Potatoes were steadier on the street.
With supplies liberal, one car of Oregons
arrived. The best Burbanks were held at
$4 4.50.
The. extent of the frost damage to north
western potatoes Is still unknown, but the
latest reports bear out tne early ones that
It waa very heavy, with conservative men
estimating It as high aa 20 per cent of
the remainder of the crop. Everything
atored In barns and warehouses was heavi
ly damaged and the temperatures were so
much lower than expected" in this section
that stocks stored In the- pits were not
covered sufficiently to protect them. ' A
mall percentage of the crop remained
undug and in outlying sections Is reported
as a total loss, although some of the gar
den plots around Portland, which were
undug, are turning out with only a S per
cent loss, having been protected by the
anow.
Prlcea tn the northwestern markets have
been the highest in the country for soma
time, and because of the regular move
ment of Oregon potatoes to California for
seed purposes, will probably continue to
be based on the prevailing prices of the
middle west. Several of the dealers ar
already Investigating conditions In Wis
consin and Minnesota and potatoes from
there will undoubtedly be offered In the
coast cities before spring. Northwestern
growers are asking from 8 to 4 cents per
pound and potatoes are Jobbing aa high
as $4.50 per hundred, which prices will
almost let the Wisconsin stock in now.
Shlpmentaof Oregon potatoes in the past
week were 11 cars as compared with five
Jn (he preceding week. Total shipments
to date have been 361 cars against a total
movement last season of 1683 cars.
Erg Stocks Closely Cleaned Cp.
Local egg stocks were closely cleaned
up. The market was firm with 55 cents
bid to shippers and candled ranch moving
a 60 cents.
Trading In butter waa of fair volume on
the basis of 66 cents for cube extras.
Poultry receipts were light and there
was little change In prices. The few
dressed turkeys still on hand were worked
off at 4.V cents. Dressed pork was very
. weak and veal was steady.
, BLCESTKM OFFERED AT 0 CENTS
Dark Hard Winter Available at 67V4
Cents Premium.
Strong premiums are still quoted in the
wheat market. Although there have been
reports that some of the sound mills
hare bid aa high as a dollar for bluestem.
loeal buyers have been ofered bluestem at
80 cents and dark hard winter at 67 A
cents. The grain corporation is selling Its
soft wheat to millers at a 10 cent pre
mium over the baalc price.
There la an active demand for flour at
the recent advance. The movement In
the mill feed market la not aa brisk aa
during the cold weather, but the mills ara
not Inclined to reduce their price on
mill run as stocka are not large and many
old orders are yet to be filled.
Onion Movement Slowing Down.
. Onions continued fairly steady the past
week with the price ranges for desirable
stock. Jobbing sales. $5.50 to $6.50 per
hundred, sacked. The New Tork and Chi
cago markets were weak and draggy be
cause of considerable frozen stock on hand.
The range in those cities was $5.255.50
per hundred. Western New Tork shipping
points quoted the best large yellows at
$6 f. o .b.. sacked. California Australian
Browns were mostly $5.506.50 per hun
dred in the consuming markets.
The shipments for tha week were 123
cars, compared with 205 last week and 128
the corresponding week last year. Massa
chusetts shipped 34 cars, California 28
and Ohio 28.' -
