Hart, professor of educa tion at Reed college, on a year's leave of absence for War Camp lommuniij Service work, received a warm wel . come at the colleee yesterday when he stopped off on his way to Seattle. During his three years of instruction t Reed, he became known as "the students' friend" and accomplished much In spreading the idea of com munity service among Heed students. Yot'TH Gets Sentence. C. A. Leo pold, who. according to his story, had been hoboing It from Utah, aged rapidly during the past few days fol lowing his arrest on a charge of car rying concealed weapons. When ar rested Leopold said he was IS and was turned over to the Juvenile court. Later it was discovered that he was nearly 1. and he was turned back to the municipal court yesterday and received a 3fl-day sentence. I.eopold was arrested with a companion by the name of Miller and both were charged with carrying concealed weapons. ' INSTTTCTB WORK PLANNED. With Mrs. W. L. Brewster, chairman, a committee of Portland women has been appointed to secure enrollments for the home service Institute to begin in Portland shortly under the Joint auspices of the university of Oregon and the Portland chapter. Aero Theft Charged, Albert Stef- fln and Luther Ldwards were ar rested in Portland yesterday by offi cers L. F. Itus.sell. G. Kelly. Horack and Smith, and are being held for the Tacoma authorities on a charge of the theft of an automobile there, Sterfln was stopped by the officers on a charge of failing to display a light on his marhine and after Investiga tion the ether charge was placed against him. The officers took two Jugs of liquor from the machine.- Tabernacle Services On. The con clusion of the tabernacle services will be held at the Congregation Ahaval Snolom. Out of a shipment of 10." 0 dozen eggs from Kugene, guaranteed fresh, 7i dozen turned out to be rotten and more than 400 dozen proved Inferior; grade when candled In Portland, ac cording to Ieputy District Attorney Dempsey who yesterday caused the arrest of Sher Kham. an egg dealer, of Kugene. on a warrant charging violation of the food and dairy laws ' of the state. The eggs were shipped . to a wholesale produce house on i Front street with a "guarantee" j stamping them as first class. The trial will be held in the district court within a few days. Motorctcle Rider Hurt. George Norgard, Larrabie hotel, an employe of the expert window cleaners, was severely cut about the face, hands and legs Just before 6 o'clock last night when he lost control of the motorcycle on which he was riding and rode through the window of the nffice of the Washington-street dock. According to Traffic Officer B. L. KUiott. the man had a new machine and, did not know how to ride it. Norgard is 25 years of age and un married. He was taken to St. Vincent's hospital by the Ambulance Service company. Engineering Lecture Scheduled. O. B. Goldman, professor of heat engi neering at Oregon Agricultural col lege, wilj address the first of a series of classes in this subject Saturday night In engineers' hall over the Circle theater. The series of classes is part of the extension work of the agricultural college, conducted under the auspices of local 87. International Union of Steam and Operating Engi neers. All lectures will be open to the public. "Dates for the remainder of the series have not been an nounced. Cli'b to Discrss Roses. "Winning the World With the Rose" will be the theme of addresses to be delivered at noon today before the Portland Ad club, at luncheon in the Hotel Ben son. Willard A. Eliot will be the principal speaker. . J. A. Currey of the American Rose society, will speak on " bat the .National Rose Test Garden Means to Portland," while membership problems of the Portland Rose Bociety will be discussed by H. Blaesing, president of the local organization. Vocal and violin solos will complete the programme. Feast or Conclusion Tonight. The Jewish feast of conclusion will com mence tonight at 7:30 o'clock. After he had wandered about the city for miles and had been the object of search on the part of his distracted parents and friends for five hours, little 4-year-old David Coleman, son of J. H. Charles Carlson. 42. a laborer employed by the Portland Railway. Light & Power company, was found dead in his room at sOt, Grand avenue north, yesterday. The body was turned over to Deputy Coroner Goetsch. who declared death apparently due to natural causes. The man had been missing for two days and an Investigation yesterday re sulted In the discovery of the body. He was unmarried. Hatchert Site to Be Surveted. To locate the new Union county hatchery, site and surveying a feed ing pond system on the Wallowa river. Master Fish Warden R. E. Clanton will go today to eastern Oregon. The feeding pond, which probably will be one of next year's projects, is to be on 70 acres Ernest Johnson has agreed to deed to the state for ac commodating salmon.
