commercial peach production (or tho United
States based upon the condition of the crop
Juno L The condition of the peach crop
has traderg-one considerable chance since
Mar 1 notably la the eastern and northern
state where the crop will not reach earlier
rxnectatlons. This hsa been doa to very
evere damace caused by curl lea and brown
rot. The curl leaf baa decreased the pros
pects of the northern Ohio peach crop
nearly SO per cent. New Tori-, althouth
ufferlns to a less decree, promises fully
1000 cars less than a month ago. Western
Maryland and other parts of the middle At
lantic states also haTa serero Infestation of
brown rot and curl leaf. The southern crop
indicates no notable chance, the Georcla
estimate Increaslnc a few hundred cars. The
most salient feature of the report la the Tery
larce crop In the far west, which promises
to exceed that of former years.
There Is now Indicated In the United
States a total crop of SO.8CO.000 bushels as
compared with S0.57S.OOO last year, or SO
n-r cent Increase oeer the comparatively
nht crop of 191S. The crop west of .the
Korkies promises 4.iiO cars ss compared
lth S3.SOS cars last year. Tho soutnern
crop. Including Missouri. Arkansas and Okla
homa peaches, promises 13.230 cars as com
pared with lUTli ears last year. This In
vrraso Is due to the larce crop In Arkansas
and snrroundinc territory. The crop from
the middle Atlantic states promises 6724
cars as compared with 4204 cars last year,
while that for the northern states promises
770 cars ss compared with 16SS cars last
year.
Juna reports confirm earlier estimates for
a record peach crop throuchout all the
western states. - There Is now sn estimated
production of H.8-M.OO0 bushels ss compared
with 13.(10.000 bushels last year, or an
Increase of 37 per cent. Conditions have
been especially faTorable for peachea and all
reports emphasise ths record slxe and ex
tremely fine quality of the fruit. ,
Details for the northwest follow:
Oregon All advices from Orecon empha
sise tbe exeelleat conditions. There will be
no great quantity of commercial peaches
shipped.
Washington The crop for ths stats is
eatlmated at (0 per cent aa compared with
US per cent In 1918. Various reports from
the Taklxna valley Indicate considerable In
jury from frost and heavy drop. Ths en
tire valley. Including Benton county, will
ship over 2000 cars, aa compared with
about SCO cars in 1918. The Wenatchea val
ley has prospects for about 300 cara, or the
earae as last year.
Idaho Peach prospecta are cenerally
good, although this stats ts of little Im
portance as a commercial peach state. There
Is an estimated production of about 40 cars
around Council and about ISO cars in the
Ummet district.

BIG ADVANCE IV COFFEl! FLTTRES
Last Friers Are 99 to llf Points Net Higher
at New" Tork. .
'NEW YORK, June 23. Tho market for
coffee futures opened at an advance of
150 points, owing- to the continued and
sensational strength of Brasll. This mads
the full maximum price movement per
mitted by the rules of ths exchange for
any one day, nnd while at first the de
mand was urgent at 24.55c for September
and 24.00c for December, it was gradually
supplied by the selling of old longs to take
profits. This continued and prices reacted
sharply during the middle of the day,
with September selling off to 23.50c and
December to 22.95c, or about 105 points
from the early high level. As soon as the
vohime of realizing subsided, however, the
market firmed up cgain with September
closing at 24.10c and December at 23.6oc,
and with the general list closing at a net
advance of 90 to 116 points. Closing bids:
July, 24.20c: September, 24.10c: October.
2.1.95c; December. 23.65c: January, 23.60c;
March, 23.45c; May, 23.35c.
The spot market was reported too nervous
and unsettled by the reactional fluctua
tions In futures and in the Brazilian mar
kets to permit of firm quotations. Rio 7s
were said to be purely nominal in the
neighborhood of 2514c and Santos 4s were
reported nominal at 3O304c.

Active Buying Based on Assumption
Germany Will Sign Treaty; Oats
Market Is Weak.
CHICAGO, June 23. Peace news today
made the corn market ascend to the highest
prices yet this season. Closing quotations
were firm at c to 4c net advance, with
July $1.83 to $1.83 and September $1.78-
to $1,781. oats finished He off to up,
and provisions down 2c to S5c.
Although business In the corn pit was at
an end before the fact was published that
the peace conference had received formal
notice Germany would sign, traders as a
rule had assumed throughout the day that
word of such action was assured. From the
ODenlnz of business knowledge was wide
spread that an extension of time had been
flatly refused to the Germans, Active ouy
ing resulted and no other Influence than
the d ea.ee news cut much figure. ReaC'
tions were, therefore, not of a lasting sort.
Oats became relatively weak, owing to an
Increase in the visible supply total. Besides,
nothing was heard of seaboard demand.
Sellinr on the Dart of -packers turned
Drovision market down grade. Initial
strength due to peace news was thus more
than offset.

Should You Stipulate State Supervision?
The Lumbermens Trust Company is not a private con
cern doing business as an ordinary corporation. It is
organized under the state trust company act and has a
good faith deposit of $100,000 with the state.
- At all times this company is subject to the supervision
and examination of the State Superintendent of Banks and
its records are examined from time to time by state bank
examiners. These examiners call at the office of the Lum
bermens Trust Company afid go through the company
records. They report the result of their examinations to
the State Superintendent of Banks at Salem.
Under the Eye and Pencil of State Officers
There was a day when our banks were not compelled to submit
to state supervision but now everyone concedes the wisdom and the
justice of state control over banks.
It was not necessary for this company to obtain a trust com
pany charter and to submit to the supervision of the State Banking
Department before engaging in the business of buying and selling
bonds. But for our own good and for the protection of our clients
we voluntarily placed ourselves under the eye and pencil of author
ized state officers. , . -
IS THIS POLICY TO BE ENCOURAGED?
IS STATE SUPERVISION WORTH WHILE?
When dealing with the Lumbermens Trust Company you are
doing business with a company which is under state supervision
ana which atfords you the additional protection of a dependable
directorate.
