Shippings were I the overshadowing features of today's fur ther active operations on the stock ex change, their uncertain course changing a relatively strong opening to an Irregular or heavy close. Publication ot the details of the sale of Mercantile Marine British ton nage and assets craeted a strong opening for the shipping division, Marine common excepted, that stock: sagging steadily and closing at a loss of almost 9 points. The early movement in shippings was e compannicd by active accumulation of oils, motors, equipments, leathers, fertilizers and sundry specialties which usually move In keeping with those groups, extreme gains ranging from 2 to almost 6 points. There was no decided movement in rails t any time aside from sporadic activity ia minor shares, especially Texas & Pacific and related western and southwestern issues, the liigher-frrade stocks reflecting realizing, with losses of 1 to 2 points at the end. The severe reversal of the final hour was precipitated by reports of a serious hitch In the negotiations with the German delegates in Paris, but that incident, it was generally bolieved, served more as an excuse than a reason for the decline. Marine preferred, Atlantic Gulf arid Amer ican International were most affected by the break in Marine common, but rails and numerous industrials also eased 1 to 2 points, wiiile oiJs and equipments cancelled much of their gains. Sales amounted to 1,400,000 chares. Kurther demoralization In remittances to London, Paris and Home attracted little at tention, more interest being manifested la tlie easier trend of long-time funds. Minor rails and tractions were the strong est features of the bond market, liberty is sues holding steady and the foreign list varying slightly. Total sales, par value, ag sreeaied ii,275,000.
