With the adoption of resolutions and a
petition to congress m-hichembody an
expression orf the thlnea for which the
conference as called, the Oregon State
Association of Farm Loan adjourned
after two days of discussions of the
many problems confronting the mem
bers ot the different a,Mciiiona and of
desired reforms In the farm loan act.
The petition to conferees asks that
Vo3y. in view of constsnt efforts by
tome Interests, to hare conirrcss place
a tax on farm loan bond, to vole
against any law that will in any way
tax the loans. The petition aka that
ro cbansrs be made at present in the
farm loan set. and that no effort be
made to abolish the farm loan associa
tions. winch are declared to be Ih
a'-renath and stability of the system
. Chances at the present time would b
aji unwise experiment, it is pointed out.

The resolutions can upon all asso
elations and their officers and members
to Join in a vigorous campaign to sell
farm loan bonds of this district, favor
ins- hearty co-operation between th
farm loan association appraisers an
the federal land bank of the district,
that credit may be given to all worthy
farmers and all returning soldiers,
Bailors and workmen desiring to tak
up agriculture, horticulture and stork
raising. It is asked that attention o
tails dto the present expensive sys
tern of titles for members securing
loans In tbis state, and asks the law
committee of the association to mak
a study of the matter to the end tha
some better an dle;-s expensive method
of guaranteina- titles may be recom
mendrd by the law committee to be
consldrcd by the board of directors or
the association. If the plan is approved
by the board it is to be presented to
tbe next state or group meetings.

plained the farm loar. system In detail
and answered hundreds cf questions
aked by delegates.

elected oresident of the association: A.

and W. A. Ayers of Kusene. secretary.
The directors are the president. vle

of Condort.
The constitution and bylaws provide
that annual meetings of the association
shall bs held on tha fourth Tuesday In
each January and the directors are to
elect the meeting place.

been awaiting her arrival one day.
They knew each other in Chicago
before he went to Alaska for a manu
facturing concern. f!sa Gear went to
Honolulu lataer to fill a position with
a, cannery company.
They corresponded, ha propoaed by
mail and they decided to meet at a
mutual port and wed. They will go to
Noma to Jive.

D" Alesslo were married in Alexandria.
Egypt, tn 13. when they were playing
a, theatrical engagement there. Today
they were divorced in Tacoma. Mrs.
CAlessio alleged that her husband had
beaten her numerous times as well as
treating her with contempt and dlsre--apect.
The couple have conducted a musical
studio in Tacoma for a number of years,
coming here after tiring of their musi
cal adventures which took them to all
parts of the clvilixed world.

quest of the delegation of members of
the house committee on military at
fairs who sail for Franc. Monday, on
an inspection tour, the war department
lias assigned Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas

The committee men will travel to

Launched In Tacoma.

Dr. A. F Wlr.ship. editor of the New
England Journal of Education. Boston.
'will initiate a coastwise movement for
higher salaries in Tacoma tomorrow.
He will speak before 10 school direc
tors, representing every district of
Fierce county. The agitation started
jtara will be carried to other cities of
' th coast where teachers say that they
are not receiving sufficient salary.
When Tacoma teachers made their
&ztt request for as Increase they were
rebuffed by the board. The stir It
aroused cauxed the school directors to
make an offer to reconsider.
According to the town report. It cost
the town of Leicester, Mass, 199 60 to
catch one browntail moth last year, but
