Miss Samuels, who is known as "The Blue Streak of Vaudeville," has a brand-new reper toire this season, her songs having been, especially written for her by Her bert Moore, in her present visit to Portland she is repeating the tre mendous hit she made at the old Or phcum several years ago. Lee Kohlmar, of "Potash and Perl mutter" fame, is the extra attraction of the show in "Two Sweethearts." b Jewish playlet, and the third big-type act is that of John Robinson's mili tary elephants. The elephants are the largest ever seen on the stage and they go through a series of astounding i ricks without the slightest prompt ing. Another hit of the show is "Dream Fantasies," the offering of Cleveland Bronner, a former matinee idol of Portland. Mr. Bronner is assisted by two dancing girls, and the act teems with novelty, not only in costume changes but in the stage setting Itself. Harry Jolson, brother of the famous Al Jolson, is another big favorite. He is on the programme as "The Operatic Blackface Comedian." and is heard in a repertoire that includes serious as well as comic selections. POLICEMAN CATCHES THREE Traffic Officer Follows Tip and Ar rests Armed Burglars. NEW YORK.. Patrolman Robert Rohrs, of Traffic A, was at Broadway and Spring street at 6 o'clock, when a tenant of the Prescott building, at 529 Broadway, hurried up and said a man acting suspiciously had been seen on the roof. As Rohrs entered the build ing a young man who afterward said he was Louis Klein, 359 South Second street, Brooklyn, came dashing out of the doorway and Rohrs seized him. Klein, after hesitating, said he had been looking for a wallet he had lost and was employed by a cotton mer chant named Harris on the fourth floor. Rohrs went upstairs and found there v as no light in the Harris office, which was tilled with packing cases. As he opened the door his eyes fell on an overcoat spead out on top of one of the boxes. An automatic revolver was lying on the coat. Rohrs drew his gun and stepped inside. Two men. who said they were Abra ham Harris, a merchant, 945 Prospect avenue, the Bronx, and Abraham Pin kie, 175 Madison street, Manhattan, were there. Rohrs says that Harris was reaching into his overcoat pocket, where a loaded automatic was after ward found, when he ordered all three men to throw up their hands. He kept them backed up against a wall until infectives Gilkinson and Cavone ar rived from the Macdougal-street sta tion in response to a telephone call sent by the man who had first given the a tarm. The three were locked up. charged with burglary and an additional charge of violating the Sullivan law was made ngainst Harris. Harris rented the room Mve days ago, and as the olTices of the silk concerns in the building would be. vacant from Saturday noon to Monday morning, the police believe he had de signs on the safes. A large canvas bag was found in Harris' office containing hacksaws, steel drills, three electric flashlights, files, a vise, a ratchet brace, a three foot jimmy, a rope ladder between -40 and 50 feet long, gloves, by means of which finger prints on a safe door might be avoided, and two pairs of "sneakers?" 2 s s 5 Reconstruction and Great Annual Before- Readjustment Sales Stock - Taking Sales To the manifold savings offered by nearly every department of the store for our Reconstruction and Readjustment Sales a new accession of the most re markable bargain opportunities is brought by our Bef ore-Stock-Taking Sales, which are themselves of store-wide character.
