Charles W. Beaver Recalls ay
When He Found Helmet and Belt

Roland Beaver, of Portland, captured
by Germans on the Chateau Thierry
section on July IS. died In the prison

letter received yesterday by his broth

The Beaver brothers were members
of the famous 30th Infantry that
stopped the German drive before Cha

while on duty at a listening? post. When
the barrage was put down by the Ger

was In command of a battery of French

line was "dead." After making his way
through the barragre to the listening
post, he found a helmet and belt be
longing to his brother. It was not
known definitely until yesterday what
had become of Roland. The Beaver
brothers, who resided at 242 Blandena
street. Portland, enlisted at Vancouver
In January, 1918, and were Immediately
sent to France. There they transferred
to the gunnery section, and after short
training went Into the fight at Hill

"The fact that coffee has nearly

importer of coffee now and throughout
the period of the war has been limited
to a S per cent, margin of profit over
the actual cost to him. The jobber
likewise is limited to a profit ot TA
per cent and Is required to sell each lot
of coffee on the basis of its cost price
regardless of any advance In the mar

cost of coffee to the consumer ts two

Newell from the office of the Federal
Food Administrator. "In the first
place, the coffee trees in the state of
Sao Paulo, the greatest coffee produc

last. This started the upward move
