Other questions of peculiar Interest
to county officials were embodied In
resolutions, one of which asks for a
constitutional amendment providing
lor four-year terms for Clerks, Sheriffs,
Treasurers. Surveyors and Coroners;
another providing that three Commis
sioner districts -shall be established in
every county of the state and that
County Judges be relieved of further
duty on the county boards.
The county officials also will ask
the Legislature to enact a law giving
all county offices a half-holiday on
Saturday afternoons during the months
of June to September, inclusive, and
authority to release at least half their
employes on Saturday afternoons dur
Ing tbe remaining eight months of
sear.
Half-Holiday la Sight. -
One resolution which promises to
provoke heated discussion is that
which asks the Legislature to enact a
law permitting the County Commis
sioners to fix the salaries of all county
deputies. The proposed law is designed
to increase salaries of deputies in many
counties where it Is said increases are
imperative.
Another resolution asks for authority
to appoint probation officers In all
counties of the state. Multnomah
County is at present the only county
authorised to employ probation offi
cers for Juvenile Court work. It will
also bo recommended that the Legisla
ture provide aJditional facilities at the
tuberculosis hosnltal.

The repeal of the law providing for
road viewers Is proposed In one set of
resolutions, while the establishment of
star mall route from Wlllamina to
Hebo Is also sought. Elimination of
the publication of special tax levies In
cities, road districts and school dis
tricts Is opposed because of Its alleged
waste of money.
The morning session of the Judges
and commissioners yesterday was- de
voted to a discussion of relief work.
A- R. Gephart, secretary of the Public
Welfare Bureau; R. W. Marsters,
County Judge of Douglas County; Rev.
Oswald W. Taylor, of the Episcopal
Church, and Mrs. McMath were the
speakers.
The District Attorneys yesterday
closed their department meeting by
electing District Attorney Neuner, of
Douglas County, as president- Max
Oehlhar, of Marion County, was named
