Owners of ail gray Hupmobile auto
' mobiles bearing- Oregon licenses are lia-
ble to be called upon to account for
'. their whereabouts at 11:10 P. M. Tues
day, when Frank W. Twombley. Deputy
' Sheriff, was shot and killed while try
ing to arrest the driver of a "Hup"
for soeedinr.
The make of the auto was noticed by
Privates Clyde R. Mills and F. E. Kori
' ' nek. of Vancouver Itarraoks. while the
driver waa holding up C. O. Herman,
tender on the Interstate bridge, and
robbing him of $123.
. Denutr Sheriff Iteckman secured an
alphabetical list of the owners of Hup
' . mobile machines in Oregon within half
i- an hour of the shooting. Through this
"slender clew officials hope to establish
the Identity of the murderer by the
process of elimination.
A reward of $2000 was offered yester
day for the capture of the highwayman
and his woman companion. One-half
: will be paid by the Interstate Bridge
Commission and the rest by Multnomah
County.
;: The bullet that killed Twomley de
stroyed the only sure clue to the mur
. derer'a identity. In the o;inlon of offi
cials who worked on the case yester
, . day. The Deputy, who was on duty
chasing: speeders on the county roads.
. probably threw the headlight of hi
.'motorcycle on the license number of
the automobile as he overhauled the
. car. The robber evidently knew this.
.'Police believe t.le'highwayman shot to
, kill, because he realised that the license
- number would be irrefutable evidence
- against him.
' Deputy Sheriffs Christofferson and
, Beckman. assisted by Chief Inspector
Clark, Detective Captain Circle and the
whole police and ShcTirrs force, took
' up the trail within a few minutes after
the shooting.
The robbery and murder police point
;; out. evidently was the work of a drug
fiend or a weak-minded boy. The sum
" likely to be on hand In a pay station
. on the bridge was not sufficient, police
believe, to tempt a professional criminal
with courage to attempt eo bold
'crime.
' On the other hand, the holdup had
all the sensationalism of Wild est
stories so dear to the heart of youth.
"I'd kill you if it wasn't for that
, automobile approaching." Herrman says
the robber told him. after driving him
under the bridge and cautioning him
. to be ouiet.
Gratuitous threats and killings have
not characterised the work of profes
sional highwaymen, police say. The
remark. In the opinion of detectives,
Kmacks of the cheap movie plot or the

tectives point out. have been prone to

Counterfeits.
. Eead what one of the GREATEST NEWSPAPERS HI AMERICA has to
, saj: on this subject :
. " The manufacturers of Castoria have been compelled to spend hundreds of
thousands of dollars to familiarize the public with the signature of Chas. E, Fletcher.
This has been necessitated by reason of pirates counterfeiting the Castoria trade
mark. This counterfeiting is a crime not only against the proprietors of Castoria,
but against the growing generation. All persons should be careful to see that
Castoria bears the signatureTof Chas. H, Fletcher, if they would guard the health
of their ohildren. Parents, and mothers in particular, ought to carefully examine
the Castoria advertisements which have been appearing in this paper, and to re
member that the wrapper of every bottle of genuine Castoria bears the fac-simile
signature of Chas. H. Fletcher, under whose supervision it has been manufactured
continuously for over thirty years. Philadelphia, Bulletin.
Letters from Prominent Druggists
addressed to Chas. H. Fletcher.
Conger Bros, of St Paul, Minn., say: "Fletcher's Castoria is certainly
fait Of merit and worthy of recommendation." '
1 C O. A. Loder, of Philadelphia, Pa., says: "For 20 years we have sold
Fletcher's Castoria and are pleased to state that it has given universal
satisfaction."
The Scholtz Drag Co., of Denver, Colo., says: "Fletchert Castoria has
surely become a household word. Seemingly every family where there
are children uses it."
Hoagland & Mansfield, of Boston, Mass., say:' "We have nothing but
good to say about your Castoria and we do not hesitate to give it our
Unqualified endorsement"
Eiker'a Dm Stores, of New Tork City, say: "Fletcher's Castoria is one
ef the oldest and most popular preparations in our stores. We have
nothing but good to say about It" '
Wolff-Wilson Drug Co., of St Louis, Mo., Bay3: "Of the thousands of
patent medicines for which we have demand there are a very few of
them that we can conscientiously recommend and your Castoria is In
cluded in this few."
D. H. Dyche Co, of Chicago, Ills., say: "The increasing demand for
your Castoria shows that a discriminating public is sot slow to Beek
out a remedy of merit and once convinced that it does all and even
more than claimed they do not hesitate to recommend It to their friends."
The Owl Drug Co., of fan Francisco, Cal., says: "We have always
been a believer in the 'original man protection' and have been particular
sever to sell anything but the genuine and original Castoria (Fletcher's).
We have many calls every day for this article from people who say they
would not be without it In their homes."

Kidney and Bladder weakness result
from uric acid, says a irbted authority.
The kidneys filter this acid from the
blood and pass it on to the bladder,
where it often remains to irritate and
inflame, cauBlns a burning, scalding
sensation, or setting up an irritation at
the neck of the bladder, obliging you
to seek relief two or three times dur
ing the night. The sufferer is in con
stant dread, the water passes some
times with a scalding sensation and is
very profuse; again, there is difficulty
in avoidinir it.
Bladder weakness, most folks call It,
because they can t control urination
While it is extremely annoying and
sometimes very painful, this is really
one of the most simple ailments to
overcome. Get about four ounces of Jad
Salts from your pharmacist and take
a tablespoonful in a glass of water
before breakfast, continue this for two
or three days. This will neutralise the
acids In the urine so it no longer is a
source of irritation to the bladder and
urinary organs, which then act nor
mally again.
Jad Baits is inexpensive, harmless,
and Is made from the acid of grapes
and lemon Juice, combine with Jltliia,
and Is used by thousands of folks who
are subject to urinary disorders caused
by uric acid irritation. Jad Salts is
splendid for kidneys and causes no bad
effects whatever.
