a good lead in Multnomah, while Ben
nett was leading? in the outside coun
ties. "Although the count in Coos
County has not been completed. Judge
Coke claims .that his present lead of
1050 in that county will be increased to
000.
Complete unofficial returns from
Clackamas. Hood River. Josephine.
Linn. Marion and Sherman counties,
and incomplete returns from 19 other
counties, exclusive of Multnomah and
not including the completed count of
Coos, show the following totals for Su
preme Judge: Bennett 6594, Campbell
4783. Coke 6447, Olson 6273.
Olson Leads in Multnomah.
The Multnomah County vote for these
candidates was: Bennett 3140, Campbell
1410, Coke 3766. Olson. 5499. The total
vote on this office so far as counted
follows: Bennett 9734, Campbell 6195.
Coke 10,213. Olson 11,772. This gives
Olson a lead of 1559 over Coke and a
margin of 203S over Bennett, who is
now running third.
At best this contest promises to
prove the keenest of Tuesday's election
and the completed count of the 36
counties may be required to determine
the winner. Only fragmentary reports
have been received from several coun
ties, others having failed to report the
vote for Supreme Judge.
In his home county, Clackamas,
Campbell received a total of 2388,
against a total of 620 distributed among
his three rivals. Bennett is especially
strong in Eastern Orepron. The incom
plete count in Wasco County, where he
lives, gives him 381, against 89 for the
other three candidates. He also carried
Marion by a plurality of 195 over Coke,
who ran second.
Sinnntt Is He-fleeted.
The Republican nominees, on the face
of incomplete returns have easily won
the only two other important offices for
which the Democrats contested. In the
Second Congressional District the in
cumbent, N. J. Sinnott, has been re
elected over Graham by almost a two-to-one
vote. The count now stands:
Sinnott 11.083. Graham 6871.
Foj State Treasurer, O. P. Hoff, Re
publican, outside of Multnomah County
now has a majority of 15,306 over Ma
son, his Democratic opponent. This in
cludes the complete unofficial returns
from six and the incomplete count In
20 counties. Mr. Hoff had a lead over
Mason of 18.715 in this county, which
increases his present lead in the state
to 34,021.

LEGISLATIVE RACE IS CLOSE
Governor Withycombe and Senator
Mt'Xary Carry Umatilla.
PENDLETON, Or.. Nov. 6. (Special.)
Governor .Withycombe and Senator
McNary polled little less than their
estimated majority in Umatilla County,
according to the returns so far. The
Republicans were successful in most
of the contests in this county, though
one of the legislative seats is still in
doubt.
Both parties are claiming it. Dodd,
Republican, is 46 votes behind Hodgen,
with four precincts to report. It is
hardly probable that he can make up
this deficiency. An official count may
be needed to decide the result of this
contest, as we as that of State Sena
tor in the 19tft district. Here Colonel
R. Eberhardt, of La Grande, Repub
lican, leads Norbourne Berkley, of Pen
dleton, . Democrat, by one vote in this
county.
It is reported that the Republican
candidate, however, has a safe major
ity In his own county. All other offices
went to the Republican candidates. All
of the measures appear to have been
defeated in this county with the excep
tion of the Normal bill, which still has
a majority of nearly 1000 in Its favor.

HEPPNER, Or- Nov. 6. (Special.)
At the municipal election yesterday a
city ticket, which was nominated by
the women, was ' overwhelmingly
elected. The women kept their scheme
quiet up to a few days before the elec

their ticket and platform by poster.
Not a man in town, not even the cand
dates, knew of the scheme until the
posters were out, but every man named
was game and accepted the nomination.
The platform declares for a bigger
and better Heppner, advocates good
roads, clearing of the canal of Willow
Creek to make the town safe in flood
time, calls for a city park, comfort
station, a new hotel and a public
swimming tank.
