1 THE MORNING OREGON! AN, LOAN SUCKER IS PAINTED MAX, AFTER FIXAIi REFUSAL, LED THROUGH STREETS. Sheriff Condemns Action at Cash mere and Threatens to Have All Participants Arrested. CASHMERE, V,-ash... Oct 7. (Spe cial.) The solicitors of the fourth lib erty loan bonds for this district be came very irate when laboring witha bunch of conscoientious objectors to buy liberty bonds. These people, mem bers of the Church of God, have been persistent in their refusals to help the Red Cross or buy bonds or war savings stamps. They were warned that if they did not come through by 6 o'clock they would have to suffer the indignity of being stripper to the waist, smeaked with yellow paint and paraded through the streets. Three of the man paid for J50 bonds, but refused to take them. About 5:30. the solicitors, business men, started for the country on a truck to bring in Anderson Drake, who has been hiding behind his religion to keep from making any donation that would help win the war. He was escorted to the Red Cross surgical dressing room and was again urged to do something for his country. Upon his .refusal, the promised punishment was fulfilled. Drake was smeared with yellow paint end a double sign of "slacker" hung over his shoulders. He was then led through the streeets with a heavy rope around his neck. The act, when brought to the atten tion of the Sheriff, was condemned and he threatens to have all of the par ticipants arrested. Olympla Taku Precautions. OLTMPIA, Wash., Oct. 7. (Special.)
