New maximum prices on hides for three months beginning August 1, snnounoed today by the price fix ing committee of the War Industries Board, provide for an average reduction of from 1 to 8 oents per pound from the old prices. Packer hides range from 24 oanta ts 80 cents a pound, according to the weight of the steer, and country hides from SI cents to K'J cents. All country hides ars ts ha boaght and sold on a selected basis. "These readjustments of maximum fixed rices," said the board's announcement, "will more nearly equalise the actual market con dltlons as reflected In prices of country hides and need not effect the prices of cattle. There have been widespread com plalats that the small hide producer has been unable, owing to marketing condi tions, to secure a fair price for his hides. The War Industries Board has. therefore, under consideration the appointment by per mit of hide dealers, similar to tha system adopted in wool. trade during coming months.
