TIIE MORXIXG OREGOXTAX, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2. 1017. GOBLINS ARE BUSY Car Tracks Soaped; Lawn Roller Run Down Hill. DEPREDATOR SHOT IN NECK ' Usual Number of Harmless Hallow " ccn Pranks and Few of More Serious Xature Reported to Police , in Portland. " The usual number of harmless Hal loween pranks and a few of a more "serious nature were reported to the police Wednesday night, several boys 'and young men were arrested. One boy, Theodore Stack, 17, was shot In the neck with a small-caliber revolver by Mrs. Delia Earl, about -vhose house at East Ninety-second and Hcyt streets he was committing depre- - dations, in the company of seven other boys. He was taken to his home at 3 995 East Alder street. His condition ;is not serious. Two boys soaped 75 feet of track of . the Mount Hood extension of the Mon tavilla line. Patrolman Gustafson ar rested the boys and warned the car- . men, who sprinkled the track with sand, so no damage was done. Several cases of soaped car tracks were re- ' ported to the police, but no damage -resulted. A heavy lawn roller standing- before H. H. Northup's house at 599 Eliza ' beth street, on Portland Heights, was taken by the "goblins" and rolled down the steep hill in Vista avenue. The roller stopped with a bump against .'the curb at the bottom of the hill and was badly ' broken. Patrolman Lee Martin caught the boys, who promised to pay for the damage done. They were held for the Juvenile Court. An awning in front of a vacant store at 1993 East Stark street was found yesterday morning hanging down across the sidewalk. Someone had cut 7 the ropes that held it in position. r Several fences were torn down, a inumber of gates were misplaced, a wagon was overturned and robbed of Its wheels, and a great many minor . pranks were played where the police .were not on hand or were not suffi ciently fleet of foot to catch the nimble .young offenders. if I wj!WMM:r.s S FOOD CONSERVATION weeksign the pledge card to save food supplies OUT OF THETRENCHES '. by Christmas !
