Walter B. Jones, secretary of the Lane County Fair Association, tendered his resignation today, after six years of service. Mr. Jones said that the du ties of the office of secretary took too much, time from his law- practice. PLAYLET WILL BE GIVEN Proceeds to Be Used to Get Mass Outfits for Chaplains. The comedy playlet entitled "Un tangling the Matrimonial Troubles of Toney" will be presented in the Hi bernian Hall, at 340 Russell street, to night, under the auspices of the Wom an's Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The play will be pro duced under the direction of Mrs. Delia Lewis. The proceeds will be used to obtain mass outfits for chap lains who are serving in the United States Army. Aberdeen High School boy stu dents to the number of 150 are making fine progress in their military Instruc tion this year, which is being given under the direction of B. H. Short, for merly first sergeant of Company G. The students have been equipped with wooden rifles and are learning the manual of arms now, SPECIAL CONCERT PLANNED Enlisted. Men at Vancouver May Hear Symphony Orchestra. If suitable arrangements can be made. It Is possible that a special com plimentary concert will be given to the enlisted men at Vancouver Barracks by the Portland Symphony Orchestra. The suggestion was made by Mrs. Henry L. Corbett, member of the board of di rectors of the orchestra. The idea has been communicated to Colonel Jones, commanding officer at the barrackB, and a reply Is expected soon. If this plan is not favored, an Invi tation will be extended to all the men to attend any or all of the regular con certs, the first of which will be held October 28 at the Public Auditorium. All men in uniform will be admitted free and will be given lower balcony Hil Gets Apple Warehouse. GOLD HILL, Or., Oct. 17. (Special.) The independent apple growers outside of the Rogue River Fruit Association in the Goloj Hill district are fitting up a large warehouse in Gold Hill and will begin packing and shipping next Mon day. The output of their orchards is estimated at 15,000 boxes, while the as sociation's output is estimated at 25,000 boxes. Scarcity of labor, boxes and shortage of cars are hampering the growers.
