James Sheehy. president of the asso ciated students, will supervise the work on the campus. Melvin T. Solve will handle the publicity. Within the next two Veeks . the necessity of food savins, especially of fats, sugars, meats and wheat, is to be placed squarely up to every student In the university by means of speakers, literature and the columns of the student body newspaper. By eliminating: all waste in the kitchens and on the meal tables of the dormitories, fraternities, sororities, boarding-houses and all other places where students eat. It is estimated that food equal In amount to that needed by the 1SS men who left the university to enlist In the different branches of the Army and Navy will be saved. House-to-House Canvass Made. ABERDEEN, Wash.. Oct. 15. (Spe cial.) The-buy-a-liberty-bond cam paign is now being carried to every home in this city by the local defense council workers who are canvassing every precinct in the city. The aim is to get as large a number of working men as possible -to take a bond and thus to Insure the sale of approximate ly 2000 bonds In this city which Is called upon to take tlSO.000 worth in the present campaign. LECTURER DUE TOMORROW S. S. McClufe W ill Speak on China and Japan. S. S. McClure, publisher and globe trotter, who has recently visited in Japan and who has seen some of the European battlefields, will be in Fort land today and is scheduled to speak at the Lincoln High School auditorium on "Japan." and tomorrow night at the "Washington High School on "China." He is to give these lectures under the auspices of the Drama League. At the meeting tomorrow nfgbt, Mr. McClure will be Introduced -by Dan J. Malarkey. Mr. McClure has been In Japan re cently and while there paid special at tention to the situation with regard to the construction of ships by the Japa nese government. . . Arrangements for his entertainment have not been completed as yet. but he will be taken over the Columbia River Highway, if he has time. . There can be no doubt of the great antiquity of measuring time by a pe riod of sve days. ... . , ITALIANS TO SWELL FUND Proceeds From Sale of Vegetables Will Go to Allied Red Cross. Italians will sell vegetables in four stalls In the Yamhill-Street Public Mar ket tomorrow. Thursday and Friday for the benefit of the Allied Red Cross fund. All proceeds will go to this fund. The stalls to be used are the first four on the south side of Yamhill street at the- corner of Third street.
