Licensing of public eardrooms Is proposed In an ordinance presented to the City Council yesterday by Mayor Baker for consideration at " the regu lar meeting Wednesday. The Mayor would require each card room to pay an annual license based on the number of tables operated. The license would be subject to revocation at any time by the Council. This would give the Council control over the rooms, which It does not have at present, according to the Mayor. The measure provides that before a oardroom shall be established the per son or persons wishing to establish It shall post notice for ten days In a con spicuous place at the entrance to the proposed room. The notice shall be readable from the sidewalk and shall give the names of all persons inter ested In the project. After the ten days' notice has been given, the person will make application for a license. Before this is granted it must be approved by the chief of police. The license or the card room may not change ownership without the consent of the Council. The Mayor has left to the Council the question of license fees, but suggests that the charge be on the basis of the number of tables operated. The measure pro vides against gambling and requires closing of all eardrooms between 1 A. M. and 6 A. M. LAND SOUGHT BY ASHLAND Timber Tract Purchased to Protect Supply of 'Water.
