There Is aa yet no demand for wheat in
tills market, but should business develop
the Merchants' Kxchange would probably
open for cash trading. There has lately
been some movement of wheat on the Sound
and In order to establish prices on a work
ing basis the Seattle Exchange yesterday
resumed Its sessions and received bids and
offers for cish wheat and other cereals,
bnt no sales were posted. The bid and
ask id prices at Seattle were:
many of the bean and potato fields will
return poor yields.

able character as to lead to increasing
yield estimates, which may now be placed
at 700.000,000 bushels; and the Canadian
prospects are also good. Europe Is await

SPRING WHEAT NEEDS RAIN BADLY

"Very warm yesterday, last night and this
morning. Maximum 94, minimum 56. Fore
cast, cooler tonight; Tuesday, fair No rain
In Ripht. Spring grain needing rain badly
in Bipr Bend and Palouse. Some signs of
shriveling. Fait grain doing fairly well al
over territory. Peas and potatoes fair. Car-
den ;orti. Cutting first crop timothy and
alfalfa in Colvllle. Good quality. Harvest
will be one month late. Farmers more
cheerful over crop prospects than labor sup
ply. Scarcity of labor at present may be
come pronounced account shorter harvest
period necessitating more crews."
NEW rOTATOES ARE MORE PLENTIFUL
Oregons Being Sold by Growers to Retailers
at 3 Cents.
Front street was liberally stocked with
every line of fruits and vegetables yester
day and the dtmand was fairly good. Prices
were generally steady.
New Oregon potatoes are coming on the
market in larger quantities and growers are
relMng ihevn to the stores at 3 cents. New
Callfornias are quoted on the street ar 3Vj
4 cents.
Kaspberrles were more plentiful and
brought $1.73 IT 2. A few loganberries were
received at.d sold at $2. Strawberries were
scarce and firm at $2& 2.25.
Cantaloupes .-ind California deciduous fruits
were unchanged in vrico
Egg Market Is Advancing:.
Th egg market was firmer with sales
on the street at- 31 'a 32 cents, case count,
and 31 cents candled.
There was a good shipping demand for
butter, which was quoted firm at 30 cents
for extras.
Cheeve continues weak and is selllnr a
lower prices on the Sound than here.
Poultry was In good demand and dressed
meats were also firm.
Rain Needed in Polk County.
DALLAS, July 10. (Special.) Unless
