WHEAT HEEDED EAST
Cash Markets Very Strong at
Milling Centers. .
NEW BUSINESS IS WORKED
Trices Xovr on Shipping Parity With
Western Tidewater Points Coast
Has Been Declining, While
East Has Gained Strength.
Wheat business with the Enst has been
resumed After a .lull for several weeks. The
. Eastern cash markets have become- very
strong with sharp advancea yesterday In
the face of a decline In options at Chicago.
Cash wheat Is now at a point In the East
ern milling centers where business could
ba worked direct from tidewater points here.
The markets at this end have been sag-Rime-.
because of the lack of Coast demand, while
prices tn the East have been moving the
other way. This tendency was continued
yesterday at' the local exchange, all wheat
bids being a cent lower than on Monday.
There was not much Interest In the coarse
grains, but oats and barley bids were raised
25 to 60 cents. Barley Is firming up again
In California, and this Is Influencing other
Xeed.
The Liverpool grain cable said: "Arrivals
tn the United Kingdom are In excess of tha
reduced consumptive requirements. At the
moment the wheat market, with restricted
trading, moves around the price- that Is re
garded as a fair war level, and news of all
descriptions Is without Influence."
Broomhall says of the foreign crop and
up ply situation:
It is becoming Increasingly evident that
supplies for the United Kingdom are liberal
for the remainder of the season. Export
purchases have been liberal and those are
coming forward In larger quantities than
was expected. India. Australia and Amer
ica etlll hold good reserves.
France Weather Is better and crop condi
tions have generally Improved. Acreage
shows a material decrease and general out
look under last year. . Import needs Impor
tant, as stocks light everywhere
Italy Weather continues dry and cool.
Labor Is scarce and crop prospects not fa
vorable. Stocks light and foreign arrivals
moderate as compared with necessity. Prices
very high. Tension is being partially
lleved by purchases and arrivals from Aus
tralia. --,
Balkan States Weather and crop ac
counts unfavorable. Stocks are light. Acre
age moderate. Corn outlook fair.
Scandinavian Peninsula General , crop
prospects unfavorable, owing to cool, wet
weather. Acreage larger than last year, but
Winter abandonment Important.
epaln Crop prospects good. Native sup
plies light and foreign arrivals small. Much
that was floating has been destroyed.
North Africa General crop prospects are
unfavorable.
Russia Winter wheat and Winter rye are
well spoken of. Weather is now mild, with
plenty of sunshine. Private advices report
general improvement In crop prospects. In
terior reserves are moderate and movements
limited. There la nothing arriving to north
porta opening of navigation, and therefore
It Is anticipated that Spring shipments will
be light. All ports are now Ice free.
Argentina All reports speak favorably of
agricultural outlook, and expect Increased
acreage to wheat and oats.
Australia Weather conditions are not fa
vorable for seeding. New South Wales too
much rain and other states too little. June
1 practically ends seed time, and there is
much of the area still unseeded Our Mel
bourne agent reports prospects about nor
mal.

Stlffer Rates in Time
Money Market.
KETy" YORK, June 12. Trading proceeded
with greater caution today, a logical result
of the latest factors In the general financial
situation. Foremost among these were the
stlffer money rates. Call loans didn't rise
to their maximum of the previous day, rul
ing between 2hb and 4 per cent, but time
accommodatlona hardened half of 1 per
cent for moat periods.
The more conservative attitude maintained
by local 'banks In accepting collateral for
loana and the new minimum of 23.60 for
Rdsslan exohanKe were among the other
incidents that served to take the keen edgv
off bullish enthusiasm. These were neutral
ized in part by a more hoperui reeling re
garding the outcome of the liberty loan.
Prices were uncertain at the outset, but
became firmer almost Immediately, only to
fall back before the end of the first hour.
At midday another rally was In order, the
movement attaining wider proportlona on
the strength of rails. Transcontinental,
grangers, coalers and minor Western and
Southwestern issues figured among the
active rails at extreme gains cl 1 to 24
points.
Pacific Mall featured the steamship shares
at a further advance of 2 points.
Dealings dwindled on the rebound, the
rise evidently falling to evoke outside In
terest. Best quotations were made In the
final hour, but the movement waa again suo
Ject to profit taking at that stage.
United States Steel, which fell to 129H on
the liberal offerings of the forneoon, rallied
to l:U't and closed at 130. a -net gain of
"4 of a point. Bethlehem new stock and
Lacakawanna Steel made extreme gains of
IV to 8 points.
Industrial Alcohol and United Cigar
Stores were among the atrongest issues at
the finish, the former making up much of
yesterday's severe decline. Motors, oils and
sugars were backward throughout the ses
sion. Total sales, 775,000 shares.
Bonds were Inclined to drop, pacifies show
