WOOL DEALERS PUZZLED COLUMBIA BASIN WAREHOUSE OF FERS TO AID DEFENSE MOVE. Irrea-nlaritlen In Market Caused by Government Decision to Take Hack of Domestic Clip. Portland wool dealers are still at sea as to the market outlook, in view of the purpose of the Government to take over a large part of the domestic clip. Advices from the East were that the same uncertainty exists in all the large wool centers, pending the action to be taken by the authorities. The opinion prevails that it Is not the intention of the Government to take all the wool away from the growers, as some of the latter fear, but rather to prevent speculation at this time. The Columbia Basin Wool Warehouse Company yesterday sent the following telegram to Senator Chamberlain with the request that he place it before the defense committee: "We are In sympathy with the action of the Boston. Chicago and other wool associations and shall exert our influ ence with our clients, who comprise a large number of the wool growers of the Pacific Northwest, to hold their wool pending the decision of the Gov ernment, and while the wool is held on account of owners, in the event of their ordering the wool sold will urge co-operation by them in every possi ble way."
