Thirteen Jitney drivers are to lose
their licenses for various violations of
city ordinances if the City Council
adopts recommendations to be made by
City Commissioner Dieck. A report of
the cases will be made to the Council
this morning.
Evidence has been obtained against
the drivers by men whom Commissioner
rleck has had riding in jitneys and
also from the records of the Police
Court. The drivers are charged with

Connecticut Prepares for Crisis.
HARTFORD, Conn., March 8. The
General Assembly, complying with a re
quest from Governor Holcomb, today
passed an act empoweringhim to ren
der any assistance the President may
need in the present international crisis;
to provide for the public safety and to
organize or employ as he sees fit any or
all resources of the state In men, prop
erties or instrumentalities.

or Belle. For instance, the ordinance
makes it a misdemeanor to have liquor
in a hotel, club, restaurant, lodging
house or boarding-house. Liquor
brought in such a place, with or without-the
consent of the management,
will make prosecution of the proprietor
possible. These clauses are intended
to aid prosecution when liquor is found,
even though the city does not have evi
dence pointing conclusively to the sale
of liquor.
The ordinance provides the highest
penalty possible under the city charter
a fine of $200 or 60 days in the City
Jail, or both.

dent and he was elected without oppo
