FIREMAN IS DISCHARGED
Li. C. Benfield's Reinstatement De
clared Due to Inadvertence.
L. C. Benfleld, fireman, who was re
instated by the Municipal Civil Service
Board Thursday, was discharged by
Fire Chief Dowell and Mayor Albee
yesterday on a charge of conduct un
becoming a fireman. The fire offi
cals say the reinstatement was
through Inadvertence.
Benfleld is charged with being one
of several arrested a year ago for
alleged improper relations with
girl of tender years. Soon after
his arrest he was tried, and the
Jury in his case disagreed. He did
not return to the fire service until re
cently, and, never having been dis
charged, the Civil Service Board put
him back to work. The reinstatement
did not prejudice any charge held
against Benfleld.

LECTURE PLACE CHANGED
Dr. Earnest II. Lindley's Business
Talks to Be at Lincoln High.
The series of Reed College extension
lectures being given by Dr. Ernest H.
Lindley on "Psychology in Relation to
Commerce and Industry" have become
so popular that Library Hall has been
found inadequate to accommodate the
crowds and the place has therefore
been changed to Lincoln High School
auditorium, whee. tonight, the par
ticular subject is "Will Power." Hun
dreds have been turned away at each
lecture in the Library, and as Lincoln
auditorium seats 1200 It Is believed
those interested In the lectures can
be accommodated.
Dr. Lindley is visiting professor at
Reed College from Indiana University.
The lectures are free and under the
direction of the extension department
of Reed College.
