THE MORXHfG OREGOXIAN, SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, 1917. The Use of Comparative Prices Will Be Absolutely Discontinued in This Stofe After Saturday Night o o A 1 THIS Dtt3 SATORDAY-WONDERFUL DAY AND DAY IT . IS 1 ORE i i i The Last Sale Day of Our. Business Year The Last Day Before Inventory The Last Day of Double Economy January The Last Day of Our "Clean-Up Sale" and Saturday- A WONDERFUL DAY full of opportunity full of inspiration Saturday, a day long to be remembered by you and by us. By you for it offers the opportunity to purchase throughout this great .store many things you need at sale prices that cease with the closing bell on Saturday night. - . Hundreds of articles are placarded with "Today Only" sale signs. Odd linesincomplete assortments odds and ends ALL marked at ridiculously low clean-up prices and, no matter how low the prices our slogan, "Merchandise of Merit Only," is always measured up to. Many people have purchased their whole year's supply of staple goods in this sale knowing every purchase was a saving TO DAY is YOUR last opportunity. ' - Saturday will be a day long remembered by us, for it marks the last day of the use of comparative prices by this store. r As we were the first store in Oregon to give change to a penny as we were the first store in Oregon to close nights as we were the first store in Oregon to HAVE ONE PRICE ONLY as we were the first store in Oregon to shorten the working hours of employes so we shall be the first store in Oregon to adopt the new advertising policy of discontinuing comparative prices, believing the public wants to shop with stores that do not exaggerate in their written or spoken word. While we have always tried to state "comparative prices" honestly, there may have been occasions when such prices were not stated accurately. In order to avoid every appearance of exaggera tion or misrepresentation, we shall discontinue the "often-abused" practice of quoting comparative prices in our newspaper advertising. This is a lead stores, both big and little, here and elsewhere, should follow. . - All Purchases Made Today and Balance of the Month Will Be Charged on March First Bills The Gift Floor Presents for Today Twenty Large Tables of Gift Novelties Filled to overflowing with gift novelties which have been taken from our regular stock useful and ornamental articles for wedding gifts, birthday gifts, dinner favors, and for constant every-day use in the home. To enable the payment of the city payroll and bills for January the City Council yesterday authorized Commis sioner Bigelow once more to borrow what money is needed. The city will fall short of enough to meet its January payroll by about $10,000. and will have another large sum to borrow to pay January and December bills. The city will sell to one of the banks a lot of warrants and certificates held in the general fund with the under standing that they will be bought back when tax money is received April 1. Interest will be paid on the loan at the rate probably of 6 per cent. The city charter prohibits the Council from bor rowing money, and the sale of old war rants is the only available means of meeting the deficiency. tody PARKR'& HAIR BALSAM A toll proparatiea f ncrlt, ltlp to eradicate daadralt.
