"The most successful Shorthorn sale ever held In the West." according to those who witnessed it, was brought to a close late yesterday after 67 head had been sold. The average price paid for the entire herd was Mil: for the cows $293 and for the bulls $425. The highest price ever paid locally for a cow at auction was given by W. J. Townley, of Union, Or. He bought Diamond's Gladys, a 2-year-old, from Frank Brown for $1320. The highest-price animal of yester day's sale was a yearling bull, sold by Mr. Brown to T. S. Glide, of Davis, Cal., for $1350. The name of the ani mal is Count Amaranth and was a splendidly reared animal, guaranteed, in every particular. rrime Prince Bring $1250. The next highest bull was Prime Prince, owned and bred by E. The Seattle Exposition will be a com bination of the Land Products Show, which was held for the first time this year, and a livestock show, it was proposed first to exhibit only dairy attle, but fat stock also will be en tered. It is not probable, though, that hogs, sheep and horses will be shown. The Seattle peonle are trying to In duce the North Yakima business men to abandon their annual livestock show and to throw their resources to Seattle. They will try, too, to have the dates of the show at Lewiston, Idaho, changed so that they won't conflict. Seattle Has Liquor-Destroying Bee. SEATTLE, Wash., Dec 7. One thou sand bottles of whisky, beer and wine, three kegs and a dozen demijohns of liquor were emptied into the sewer alongside police headquarters today before a large crowd of spectators.
