3 Married Several Weeks Ago.

"Although O. B. Ballou, president of
the wholesale automobile accessory
firm of Ballou & Wright, and Emma K.
Kellogg, both of Portland, were mar
ried quietly in Tacoma nearly a month
ago. Uie fact has been known only to
a few close friends and relatives.
Z The wedding was planned to take
place early in the Fall with a trip
through California to follow. As the
appointed day arrived, unexpected con
tingencies required Mr. Ballou's pres
ence In Portland, which caused a post
ponement of the trip, but the weddingbrary.
was carried through quietly at the time
set, their plans to be announced more
fully when arrangements could be
made for their journey, which is' to
take place in the near future.
For more than 20 years Mr. Ballou
has been associated with Charles F.
Wright, originally in Great Falls,
Mont., but for the past 16 years In

Centralia to Hear Recital.
CENTRAL.IA. Wash.. Nov. 7. (Spe
cial.) The second number on Cen
tralia's Lyceum course will be given in
the High School Auditorium Thursday
night. Miss Zora Augusta Shaw will
give a dramatic recital. of 'The Melt
ing Pot." The first number on the

MINE CLOSED AFTER FIRE
Mendota 'Company Expects to Re
sumo Operations Soon.
CENTRALIA, Wash.. Nov. 7. (Spe
cial.) As the result of a fire that
swept through one of the tunnels of
the Mendota Coal & Coke Company's
mines at Mendota the mines are shut
down. Operations, however, will prob
ably be resumed Thursday.
The fire broke out Friday night.
The tunnel was sealed immediately.
A heavy stream of water was turned
into the tunnel and the blaze subdued.
The tunnel is being cleared of damp,
however, before operations are re
sumed. The monetary loss will be consider
able, as the burned section was only
recently retimbered. B. H. Johnston,
president of the company, says that he
feels gratified that the fire was ex
tinguished without the loss of life or
injury to any of the miners.
Grand Mound Pastor Resigns.
CENTRALIA. Wash.. Nov. 7. (Spe
cial.) Rev. H. W. Thompson has re
sumed the pastorate at the Grand
Mound Church, delivering his first ser
mon Sunday, since his return from a
five months" visit in the East, lour
ing Rev. Mr. Thompson's absence the
Grand Mound pulpit has been filled by
Rev. Frank Day.

Acid When Despondent.
PASCO, Wash.. Nov. 7. (Special.)
William Prltchard, a barber, who has
be.en In the employ of W. L. Reno, of
this city, for the past year, committed
suic)de at his rooms here Sunday night
by drinking carbolic acid.
The man was about 30 years of age,
and his former wire and son are said to
reside at Cottonwood. Idaho. His par-i
ents reside at Vancouver, Wash. The
body is at the Lee-Perry undertaking!
