THE 3IORXIXG OREGOXIAX, TUESDAY. JTnV" 23, 1916. 17 EAST SENDS ORDERS Business in Milling Wheat Now Being Worked. Is TRADE LIKELY TO CONTINUE Crop Scare in Middle West, With Attendant High Prices, Provides Xeeded Outlet for Grain of This Territory- Local wheat prices were advanced yeater fcay. but not to the extent of the Chicago rise. Bid prices at the Merchants Exchange averaged 1 to 2 cents higher. As a consequence of the rapid advances In the Eastern wheat market and the seri ousness ot the crop scare inquiries have been coming into this territory. Already fair amount of wheat husines has been iworked for shipment to the Eastern states. and while the present spread of prices lasts the business Is expected to continue. The Eastern demand Is welcomed, ai ' the xport situation Is by no means bright- The foreign markets are firmer, but there has been no material response yet ln Liverpool to the big jumps the Chicago market has recorded. There ha been a fair amount of aelllng tn the country in the past few days, but farmers Ideas are now very firm. The condition of foreign crops Is reported by Broomhall as follows: United Kingdom Weather Is unsea sonable, being cold and wet. and thia keeps crops backward. General outlook is not favorable, as there Is much reploughlng and poor growth. Frances-Wheat has received much dam age by heavy rains, and rust Is now de reioping rapidly. Acreage Is short ox nor mal, and the general appearance of the crop unfavorable. Small estimates for the yield are becoming current. Germany Latest reports from neutral sources speak favorably of all cereal. Po tatoes will ba short, owing to coldness and lark of wunshlne. Russia Siberia and Volga district are suffering from dryness; elsewhere the out look is considered by semi-officials as mostly fair. Our agents' reports are till unfavor able, both as to acreage and development of seedlngs. Australia Our agents maintain that the acreage to wheat will be fully 15 per cent under normal. Weather has been dry, but now more favorable. India Weat.her is hot and dry, with gen ral moisture deficient. Native food grains appear well. Larger business doing In wheat for export. Terminal receipts In cars were reported by the Merchant Exchange as follow Wheat Barley Flour Oats Hay Tortland. Or.. July 24. (Special.) Mr. Hanley returned last week from a trip to New York and other sections of the East, and he says people back there are keen for information about loganberry juice. 'Everybody is talking about U. he said. "I was asked many times where the Juice could be procured. There seems to be no limit for the demand and I believe there Is no chance for over-production.
