12 THE 3IORNIXO OREGOXIAX, MONDAY, JULY 24. 191G. NEW HIGHWAY PROPOSED COXSBCTIOS WITH WASHINGTON tOl'XTY ROAD PROJECTED. Itoal In From End. of TerwIIHgrer Boulevard Thnragh Bertha to Beivnton on ET Grade. Plans for the construction of a new road leading from Portland and tap ping the rich farming country of "Washington County have been formu lated at a joint meeting of the Com missioners of Washington County and Commissioner Rufus C. Holman. of Multnomah County, and preliminary surveys and estimates are to be made immediately by Engineer Herbert Nunn, of this county. The new road would have no grade greater than 4 per cent. Air. Holman said last night. The proposed road would lead from the end of. Terwilliger boulevard through Bertha to Beaverton. there joining with a good road which goes the entire length of Washington Coun ty. It would be about six miles long, being approximately half in Multnomah and half in Washington County. Mr. Holman said that according to present plans the road probably would be put in next year. All preliminary surveys and plans, however, can be got out of the way this year so that there will be no delay in the work when it is started. Mr. Holman said that according to present plans extensive work would be done on the roads to the west of the city this coming year.
