The Washington state tropshooting
tournament came to a close today on
the Harbor Island grounds.
In the shooting of the 150 targets
Frank Troeh, of Vancouver, Wash.,
stood high amateur for the day, hitting
14 4. L. H. Reid. of Seattle, was the
high professional, with a score of 145.
The high amateurs-In the two days'
programme out of. 300 targets were
Frank Troeh, who totaled 284, first;
Frank Templeton, 278. second; P. K..
O'Brien, of Portland, 275, third.
The professionals for the two days
rhooting at 300 targets: First. Hugh
Poston, 2S7; second, L. H. Held, 285;

The Interstate Association amateur
championship monors a Leo were taken
by Frank Troeh, who shot 97 out of the
100 birds in this event. C. E. McKelvery
was second with a score of 94.

Archie Jacobs, infieldcr, a California
boy formerly of St. Mary's College,
Oakland, will make his initial appear
ance before Portland fans as a member
of the Montavilla Wildcats against the
Baby Beavers in the Intercity Base
ball League game on Vaughn-street
grounds Sunday.
He was a teammate of Louis Gutsto,
the sensation of the Pacific Coast
League. Guisto vouched for the ability
of Jacobs by saying that if the South
ern athlete could not make good with
any team in the circuit, the Inter-City
League must be as good as Class B
rating.
Manager Jessup had his new player
out in uniform last Tuesday for a
workout, and another practice for the
whole squad has been called for Friday
afternoon at 6 o'clock on the Monta
villa grounds. Just what position
Jacobs will start has not been de
termined, but he has been covering
third base like a veteran, and It may
mean that "Letter" ' Buck, the Whit
man College star, will be shifted to the
outfield if Jacobs makes good at the
torrid corner.
Secretary Wayne F. Lewis has made
arrangements with W. W. McCredie
whereby the Portland Beavers will
have first call on Jacobs should the
former St. Mary's athlete proved to be
the find" that he Is heralded.
Al Zweifel, the Montavilla twirler
who has been going good of late but
has had hard luck in breaking into the
win column, is President Fred Nor
man Bay's protege. President Bay ex
pects that Zweifer will be trying out
with, some organized ball .team of
higher classification when the 1917
season rolls around.
A meeting of the Inter-City League
directors hus been called for tomorrow
night in President Bay's office, 270

Walter A. Goss, winner of many
tennis battles, again came through in
fine style yesterday and defeated F. E.
Harrigan, another veteran, in their
scheduled match of the annual Spring
handicap tennis tournament of the
Multnomah Amateur Athletic Club,
Goss lost the first set 6-8 and Harrigan
had his opponent 6-3 in the second, but
he could not keep the pace and Goss
won 7-5. The third set went to
Goss 6-3.
Unless heavy rains come today or to
morrow, the winner of the Alma D.
Katz trophy in the singles will be de
termined by Saturday afternoon on the
club courts. A. B. McAlpin, chairman
of the tennis committee, has arranged
eight matches for today's play starting
at 12 o'clock noon and lasting until 6
o'clock, when the McAlpin and New-
land-Mao V'eagh and Daly contest opens.

day afternoon by the prospective mem

Late L. K. Reynolds Is Laid Away
by Oddfellows.
Funeral services of the late Lemuel
O. Reynolds, an old resident and a vet
eran or tne jivu war, were conducted
yesterday afternoon by the Golden
Rule Encampment, No. 2s, Oddfellows,
from the chapel of the East Side Fu
neral Directors, 414 East Alder street.
Interment was made in Lone Fir Cem
etery. Members of Canton Portland,
No. 1, Oddfellows, attired in their full
uniform of chevaliers, were present.
He was a member of the encampment
canton. Peninsula Lodge, No. 128, Odd
fellows, and Ben Butler Post, Grand
Army of the Republic.
Mr. Reynolds was 71 and had been
a resident of the state for the. past 35
years. He resided at 84S De Pauw
street, in Woodlawn district.
