Funeral services pf the late Andreas Albrecht, who died Wednesday at 430 Ainsworth avenue, at the age of 54 years, will be conducted from Trinity Lutheran Church, corner Graham street and Wil liams avenue, today at 3 o'clock and interment will be in the Rose City Park Cemetery. Under the auspices of the Federated Young People's societies of Lents a irood citizenship meeting was held at the Ienta Baptist Church Wednesday night. Rev. J. M. Nelson, pastor, presid ins. Si. H. Whitney, principal of the Ockley Green School, delivered the principal address on the subject, "Pre Vocational Training or Industrial Edu cation." Professor Whitney outlined some of the work that is being under. taKcn at tne Ockley Green School to illustrate his subject and emphasized the importance of industrial education for all young people as one of the main requisites of good citizenship. Prelate Visits Portland. Rev Andrew Morrissey, provincial of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, which has charge of Columbia University, notea catnonc educator, is visiting Co lumbia University for his annual offi cial inspection. He will ascertain what is required for the ensuinir year and what additions to the faculty may be required. Dr. Morrissey expressed himself as pleased with the general work of the university. He has high confidence in the future of Portland and looks to the development of a sec ond Notre Dame at Columbia Univer sity. Strert Proceedings Completed. The proceedings for the extension of JUdrona avenue from the northwest corner of block 1 in Woodlawn to the westerly corner of block 4 in Woodlawn to the north line of Dekuin avenue, nave oeen completed. The as sessment for this extension is $2205 and is now due and payable and will. ne delinquent and near interest after May 13. Dr. Bnm to Speak. "The Sacredness of Childhood" will be the subject of an address to be delivered by Dr. John H. On Sunday afternon the dedication of the Swedish Norwegian Congregational Church, Twenty-second and Sumner, will take place. Dr. Luther R. Dyott, pastor of the First Congregational Church, will preach the dedicatory sermon. This will be an event in Congregationalism in Portland, being the sixth church dedicated in the past six years. Teachkrs Arb Reappointed. At the last meeting of the board of direc tors of Union High School rvo. 1 on Columbia Highway, Principal A. R. Tollefsen and Miss Helen Coulter were reappointed teachers for the ensuing year. The union high school of this county is closing its second year with increasea attendance. Mrs. N. D. Hughes Burisd. Funeral services for Mrs. N. D. Hughes, why died Tuesday at 915 East Flanders street, were held yesterday from this residence and interment was in Rose City Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was 63 years old and mother of Richard R. and Nora Marie Hughes and daughte of T. J. L. Stiller. Psychology Class to Meet. The final meeting of the University of Ore gon extension class In psychology will be held tonight n room H of the Central Library at S o'clock. The subject of Dr. George Rebec's lecture will be. Suit Filed to Recover Excess. Suit agr.inst the Southern Pacific Company charging excess freight totaling $2552 was filed in the Circuit Court yester-' day by George Black, who has been assigned the claims of several com panies interested In the shipment of pickled fish from California. The rates on carloads were well in excess or the freight under the tariff filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission, contends the plaintiff. Mb, W. S. Kirk, the Army goods dealer, who has been in Portland tem porarily on former occasions, is now ltj the city again. He will open up his store, corner of Third and Stark, at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, with an in teresting stock of goods to please everybody. Mr. Kirk has stores in the majority of the principal cities and his opening of a store in Portland will be greatly appreciated. Adv. Book Runs to Sbcond Edition. The second edition of Rev. Edwin O'Hara's book, "The Catholic Pioneers of Ore gon," is being printed and will be off the press some time next month. The first edition was exhausted some time ago.
